🔥 Fire Prevention Week Tip: Use the right charger.

Use the cord and charger that came with your device, or one approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

Before you plug in tonight, take a quick look: are you using the right charger for your device?

🏠 Let's do a 30-second home safety check.

When was the last time you:
✔ Replaced a damaged charging cord?
✔ Checked a battery-powered device for damage
✔ Unplugged a device after it finished charging?

Safe charging starts with simple habits.

🚨 Your device may be telling you something is wrong.

Stop using a rechargeable device if it:
⚠️ Feels very hot
⚠️ Starts to swell
⚠️ Smokes
️⚠️ Has a strange smell

These can be signs that the battery is damaged and may pose a fire risk. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

📍 Visit Save-On-Foods on Fraser Highway today, October 7, at 3 p.m. to chat and ask any questions you have about fire safety while our Langley City Firefighters help pack your groceries.

🔋 Before you charge your phone on the couch, in bed, or under a pillow, let us tell you why you shouldn’t!

Those soft surfaces can trap heat and increase fire risk. Instead, charge devices on a hard, flat surface where air can circulate.

📍 If you're shopping at Safeway on Fraser Highway today, October 6, stop by at 3 p.m. and chat with Langley City firefighters about safe charging habits while they help pack your groceries.

The Great BC ShakeOut is coming!

📅 Thursday, October 15, 2026
⏰ 10:15 a.m.

Join communities across B.C. and take part in this year’s earthquake drill.

When the drill begins, practice:
⬇️ DROP to the ground
🛡️ COVER your head and neck and get under a sturdy table or desk
✋ HOLD ON until the shaking stops
It only takes a minute to practice, but that minute could make a difference in an emergency.

Take a few extra steps to prepare:
📋 Review your Household Emergency Plan
🎒 Stock your Household Emergency Kit and Grab & Go Bag
📱 Know how you’ll connect with loved ones
🏠 Secure items in your home that could fall or cause injury
🤝 Check in with neighbours who may need additional support
📍 Know your evacuation routes and safe spaces
A resilient community is built one prepared household - and one caring neighbour - at a time. ❤️

This October, let’s Drop, Cover, and Hold On together - and take another step toward a more prepared and resilient Langley City.

📩 We’d love to hear from you! Send us a quick email at [email protected] to let us know how the exercise went for you, your household, workplace, or group. Whether everything went smoothly or you noticed something you’d like to improve, your feedback can help us build a more prepared and resilient community.
