On Wednesday, our Grade 11 students shared their AGS Ed Talks as part of the Career-Life Connections (CLC) 11/12 graduation requirement.

Over the past several months, students have researched, written, and delivered presentations on topics connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, developing their research, critical thinking, and communication skills along the way.

Presentation topics explored important global issues including overconsumption, species extinction, poverty, greenwashing, artificial intelligence and energy consumption, and the impact of gaming on mental health.

The professionalism, preparation, and thoughtful insights demonstrated by our students were truly impressive. Congratulations to our Grade 11 students on their engaging presentations and the hard work that went into bringing these important conversations to life! 👏

The Grade 5 class enjoyed an unforgettable cave exploration adventure at Horne Lake, connecting their classroom learning about the rock cycle to real-world geological features.

Throughout the day, students demonstrated curiosity, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for discovery as they explored deep underground. They asked thoughtful questions, made meaningful observations, and fully embraced every part of the experience.

Highlights included climbing a waterfall inside the cave, experiencing complete darkness underground, squeezing through the famous “Cheese Grater,” discovering impressive calcite formations such as the Ice Cream Waterfall, and even riding Canada’s only cave slide!

This hands-on learning experience provided students with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of geology while building confidence, curiosity, and a sense of adventure. 👏⛰️

The Aspengrove Mountain Bike Team had an awesome trip to the BC High School Provincial Championships in Quesnel last week!

Our Junior Boys, Max and Tyce competed in both the Cross-Country and Enduro events hosted by the Gold Rush Cycling Club. Competing against some of the top high school riders in the province, both athletes rode extremely well, especially considering they are at the younger end of their division.

The team was accompanied by Mr. Gow and Dr. Wilson for the long road trip north. Along the way there were a few memorable highlights, including an excellent taco stop in Cache Creek and a visit to historic Barkerville.

A huge congratulations to Max and Tyce for representing Aspengrove with determination, resilience, and great sportsmanship throughout the weekend. 👏

Our Art & Design students recently took part in an inspiring local arts field trip exploring Indigenous and contemporary art in our community. 🎨

Students visited the Nanaimo Museum to learn about Coast Salish art and storytelling traditions, followed by a visit to the Nanaimo Art Gallery’s exhibition, “An Animated Assembly.” The day also included stops at local artisan spaces, including the Nanaimo Ceramic Arts studio and Canadian Indigenous Art Inc., where students explored how artists use different materials and techniques to express identity, culture, and connection to place.

This meaningful experience helped students deepen their understanding of local Indigenous perspectives while making connections between traditional and contemporary artistic practices. 🧡
