Discovering Laval-Ouest: The Kosy Korner 🕺🍧

Did you know about the Kosy Korner?

Established in the 1920s, this gathering place was an iconic part of the area for many years.

🔹 Following the 1929 economic crisis, the Kosy Korner became increasingly popular with families and young adults who visited the beaches in the area.

🔹 At the time, some of the biggest names in American jazz would come to Île Jésus, and the Kosy Korner attracted adults who wanted to dance to this music.

🔹 The few images we have of the Kosy Korner show an establishment offering hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, and drinks. Its advertising was in English and, at one point, was even painted on the roof. The signage tells us that there was a dance pavilion and that gasoline products were also sold there.

The location therefore featured a dance floor, a gas station, and even a taxi stand.

🔹 During a cycling race organized by the Sylvestre Cycling Club, Louis Smet and Louis Cecchini, owners of the Kosy Korner, helped organize the event and welcomed the cyclists at Plage-Laval.

The location then became a gathering place for various sporting, political, and other activities.

🔹 Located at what is now the intersection of Sainte-Rose Boulevard and Arthur-Sauvé Boulevard, the Kosy Korner disappeared toward the end of the 1960s, as urbanization and changing lifestyles transformed the area.

Do you have memories of the Kosy Korner or stories about Laval-Ouest?

💙 **Stroke Awareness: Know the Signs, Save a Life**

Recognizing the signs of a stroke quickly can make a life-changing difference.

Stroke risk increases with age, making awareness especially important for older adults, families, and caregivers. 👵🧓

Remember **F.A.S.T.:**
✅ **Face** — Is there drooping on one side?
✅ **Arms** — Is there weakness or numbness?
✅ **Speech** — Is speech unclear or difficult?
✅ **Time** — Call for emergency help immediately.

⏱️ Every second counts. Take a moment to learn the signs and share this information with your loved ones.

💙National Stroke Week is an important annual reminder that knowing the signs of stroke could save the life of someone you love. 👵🧓🏼

More than 2 in 3 people who have a stroke are aged 65 and over, making stroke awareness especially important for older people, their families and carers.

Remember F.A.S.T.:
✅ Face
✅ Arms
✅ Speech
✅ Time

This week, take a moment to learn the signs and share them with your family and friends, because every second counts. ⏱️
