🚧 The Town has received confirmation that Sundance Park will be closed to public access starting Monday, June 15, as crews begin work on the Sundance Park reconstruction project.

Fencing and site security measures will be put in place, and construction crews will begin preparing the site for the storm pond and pathway improvements. Adjacent residents will receive hand-delivered notices with additional information about the upcoming work.

For the safety of everyone, residents are asked to respect all closures and keep children and pets away from the construction area at all times.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as these important infrastructure improvements are completed.

Due to the rainy weather conditions, this work has been postponed. It will be completed when weather conditions improve and the equipment is available for use.

Residents may see Town staff working in parks and green spaces on Thursday and Friday as part of ongoing efforts to help safely manage local gopher populations.

The Town is trying a new approach this year, renting a specialized gopher control unit from the MD of Willow Creek. Staff will only use the equipment in select Town-owned areas and will remain on site while it's in operation.

Like many communities across southern Alberta, the Town has seen increased gopher activity following multiple milder winters. While staff understand that gophers are part of life in the region, and there is no way to eliminate gophers entirely, efforts are being made to help reduce populations in public spaces where possible.

📍 The Town would like residents to know:

🔸Work will only be conducted on Town-owned land
🔸The equipment will be operated by staff at all times
🔸The control method uses pressurized exhaust carbon monoxide deep inside the gopher burrows and does not use poisons or other dangerous methods
🔸There is no danger to people or pets

If you see staff working in parks or green spaces, please avoid the area and give them room to work. The Town appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding as staff continue working to maintain safe and enjoyable public spaces throughout the community.

🖌️🖼️Calling all youth artists in Coalhurst!!

We're looking for 14-18 year olds who want to help bring some COLOUR into the FCSS space at the Coalhurst Community Centre.

This summer, Lethbridge County FCSS is hosting a special 4-day camp where you can help paint a full-scale mural and work alongside a Red Seal painter. It'll be great hands-on experience, learning to plan, design, colour block and paint the mural.

Save the date, Coalhurst!

🍁 Canada Day is coming up, and we’re getting ready to kick it off together at Miners Memorial Park on July 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Join us for opening ceremonies, a community BBQ, birthday cake, live music, lawn games, kids’ activities, the Coalhurst Volunteer Fire Department Slip ’n Slide, and more!

This year’s celebration will also include a soccer theme in honour of Canada co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup — including the Hometown Showdown, a fun, informal, all-ages 5 vs. 5 soccer tournament, organized by members of the Coulee Kickers Soccer Association.

⚽ To register for the Hometown Showdown, contact: [email protected].

🙋‍♂️ We’re also looking for volunteers to help make this year’s celebration a fun and welcoming event for the whole community. Whether you can help for an hour or a few hours, we’d love to have you join us.

Volunteer roles include set up, take down, activities, food service, soccer games, and general event support.

To volunteer, contact Melissa at [email protected] or sign up here: https://signup.com/go/cDrqjoT

💜 Coalhurst Cares Featured Volunteer: Erin McIlwraith and Family

Today we’re recognizing Erin McIlwraith and her family for the many ways they give back to the Coalhurst community.

Erin dedicates countless hours to coaching local youth, encouraging not only the athletes on her own teams, but every player on the court. Her positivity, leadership, and genuine care help young athletes feel supported, valued, and inspired.

Erin and her family also play an important role in supporting Santa’s Gone Loonie each year, helping behind the scenes to make the event a success for local families.

Thank you, Erin and family, for continuing to show up, lend a hand, and make a lasting difference in Coalhurst!
