Lethbridge Police Service LPS uses Facebook to share information with the public. This account is not monitored 24/7.

As your Police Service, our mission is to provide a safe community for all – both on and offline. After extensive consideration and consultation with other police services, LPS has closed public commenting on our posts. The volume of comments that violate our terms of use has steadily increased and attempting to moderate content 24/7 presents a significant capacity challenge and liability risks. Comments frequently include statements that contain profanity, are racist, derogatory, misogynistic, defamatory, threatening, abusive, maligning, harassing, misleading, off-topic, inaccurate and in some cases have the potential to compromise investigations. These comments are not constructive or productive and do not align with the values of our organization – respect, courage, professionalism, collaboration and accountability. The environment has become increasingly hostile and LPS has a duty to protect members of the public who engage with our social media channels, the subjects of our posts and our employees. Closing comments on Facebook and other LPS social media platforms will not eliminate the public’s ability to communicate with the Service. We welcome and encourage continued connection with our citizens by phone, in person, direct messaging and by emailing [email protected]

💙 October 24 is Child Abuse Prevention Day.

Every child deserves to feel safe, supported and believed.

💙 Today is National Child Abuse Prevention Day.

We wear blue today to raise awareness, but keeping children safe takes more than one day, one photo or one organization.

It takes adults who listen when children speak. People who recognize when something isn't right and take action. And professionals who work together to ensure children and families receive the care, protection and support they need.

At Aurora Child & Youth Advocacy Centre, that commitment is reflected in the work of our multidisciplinary team, bringing together professionals from law enforcement, child protection and other services to provide a coordinated, compassionate response to child abuse.

Today, members of our team came together in blue, including representatives from Lethbridge Police Service, Taber Police Service and South Central Children and Family Services.

While not everyone could join us for the photo, our shared commitment extends far beyond the people pictured here.

Because keeping kids safe isn't just something we recognize today. It's something we work toward every day.

💙 We all have a role in keeping kids safe.

The Lethbridge Police Service’s Economic Crimes Unit is partnering with the Cor Van Raay YMCA to host two free Fraud Prevention Information Sessions on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

“Over the last ten years, incidents of fraud in our community have doubled,” says Sergeant Tanner Hansen of the LPS Economic Crimes Unit. “To combat this growing problem - and the technology that facilitates it – we’re working to support our community through innovative fraud investigations, strong community partnerships and proactive education. These information sessions are an important part of that work, helping residents gain the knowledge and tools they need to recognize fraud, protect their personal information and support friends and family members who may be vulnerable to scams.”

Open to all members of the community, the sessions will focus on current fraud trends, common scams, identity theft prevention and practical strategies to help residents protect themselves and their loved ones from becoming victims.

Lethbridge Police have charged a 59-year-old male with committing an indecent act following an incident at a city park.

On October 15 around 3 p.m., police responded to a report of an indecent act at the playground in Galt Gardens along the 600 block of 3 Avenue South. Witnesses reported that an unknown male sat on a bench near multiple children who were playing in the area and was observed committing an indecent act.

Members of the Downtown Policing Unit attended and located a male matching the suspect description a short time later. He was subsequently arrested without incident.

At the time of the arrest, police determined the male was bound by conditions prohibiting him from attending any city park.

Sean Celdar Wilcox, 59, of Lethbridge, is charged with one count of committing an indecent act in a public place, one count of indecent exposure in the presence of youth under 16 and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Wilcox is currently in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
