We encourage registration so we know how many participants for catering purpose.
The purpose of this workshop is to educate hunters and members of the public on Chronic Wasting Disease. A disease found in the cervid population (deer, elk, moose, and caribou) that is currently spreading rapidly in North America and is 100% fatal to any animal that contracts it. The goal of the workshop is to provide information about what the disease is, why surveillance is important, how the disease is tested for, and how hunters, trappers, butchers, road crews, and indigenous communities are instrumental in the surveillance of the disease. The workshop also allows the opportunity for answering any questions that might come up people might have about CWD and wildlife health.
The workshop is designed to be interactive and discussion based. Participants are encouraged to share their observations, experiences, and questions throughout the session. The workshop is geared towards, hunters, wildlife staff, trappers, and anyone interested in wildlife health and CWD surveillance.
📎There will also be a step-by-step sampling demonstration using a deer head to identify and collect the primary tissues submitted for CWD testing.
