This includes the District of Lillooet.
Category 1 fires or "camp fires" will still be allowed. Camp fires are defined as small, recreational fires limited to a maximum size of 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide. They must be in a proper fire pit or ring of rocks, with a fuel break surrounding them. A shovel or 8 litres of water must be immediately available to extinguish the fire entirely, ensuring ashes are cold to the touch before leaving the area

Effective at 12:00 Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on May 7, 2026, Category 2 and 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre. A map of the affected area is available here.

In addition to Category 2 and Category 3 open fires being prohibited, the following activities and equipment are also restricted:
โ€ข Air curtain burners
โ€ข Carbonizers
โ€ข Binary exploding targets
โ€ข Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of BC
โ€ข Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description, except when used for a Category 1 campfire as defined in the Wildfire Regulation
โ€ข Controlled air incinerators

This open fire prohibition will remain in effect until 12:00 noon Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on Oct. 19, 2026, or until the orders are rescinded.

For more information, including a map outlining the affected area, please visit: https://blog.gov.bc.ca/bcwildfire/category-2-and-3-open-burning-prohibitions-planned-for-the-kamloops-fire-centre/

A household plan doesn't need to be complicated. It just needs to answer a few key questions:

Who do we contact if we're separated?
Where do we meet if we can't go home?
What do we need to grab if we have to leave fast?
What about the animals?

PreparedBC has a fill-in-the-blank template to make it easy. Download it at lillooet.ca/epweek.

Join us tomorrow at noon for our free webinar โ€” we'll walk through this together. Register at lillooet.ca/epweek

The good news is that preparing doesn't have to be complicated. A household plan, a grab-and-go kit, and knowing your neighbours goes a long way.
