Explore Kawartha Lakes Welcome to the official page for Kawartha Lakes Tourism! Escape to the great outdoors in the Kawartha Lakes Region of Central Ontario!

Through this page, we provide the public with up-to-date information about the area, including up-coming events, tourism hot-spots and other general information. The name "Kawartha" comes from the area's First Nation Peoples, in whose language it means "land of shining waters". The moment you see the sun dancing off the gentle ripples of the water, you'll see for yourself. Located just 90 minutes northeast of Toronto, the City of Kawartha Lakes and its many charming communities are nestled amongst beautiful lakes, winding rivers, scenic farmland and pristine wilderness. With over 250 lakes and rivers throughout vast stretches of panoramic beauty, the Kawartha Lakes offer visitors a wealth of leisure activities year round. Visit six Trent-Severn lock stations from Bobcaygeon to Bolsover by boat or road and tour local attractions along the way. Take in the fresh air as you hike, cycle or ski an extensive 800 km network of trails including the 85 km Victoria Rail Trail. Enjoy theatre and music at the historic Academy Theatre for Performing Arts or discover our rich history touring museums and historic sites. Pamper yourself at an exquisite inn or resort, or get back to nature and stay at a quaint waterfront cottage. Spend leisurely days in historic towns browsing quaint boutiques or finding hidden treasure in antique shops. At O'Brienview Farm, 🐄 our cows are so quiet, that you can take a walk with us into the pasture to get up close with our friendly beef cows and calves during Kawartha Farmfest, on Saturday October 3. 🤠 Visit with our free ranging chickens, 🐓 and take a stroll through our greenhouse and vegetable gardens. 🌱 Talk to our family about our organic farm, and be sure to bring your cooler to stock up on frozen beef, and chicken as well as fresh vegetables.

Have you ever picked your own apples? You will have the chance during Kawartha Farmfest on Saturday October 3. Our dwarf apple trees are just perfect for all ages to safely pick in our small orchard. Pay for the basket you wish to fill, and start picking the apples you want ($).
🍎The apple trees are short and easy to reach for all ages.
There are many types of apple trees to see and pick from including McIntosh, Empire, Spartan and Liberty.
Various basket sizes are available to suit your picking ($).
We also have ready-picked apples ($)

During Kawartha Farmfest on Saturday October 3, come to Schaiwind Farms and meet our sheep. Their job is to graze the grass under solar panels at several solar energy projects in the community as a solar grazing service.

🤠 Ticket sales have launched for the 24th annual Kawartha Farmfest on Saturday October 3, 2026, the weekend before Thanksgiving weekend. Nine local farms will open their gates for you to visit. Meet the animals, visit a maple sugar bush, learn about growing vegetables, get lost in a corn maze, and pick your pumpkins. There is lots of family fun for everyone on this self-driving tour of farms.
