Fraud prevention and road safety remain a shared responsibility.

This week, vigilant bank employees reported suspicious identification, preventing what is alleged to have been a fraud attempt. Members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service Uniform Branch attended and arrested a 33-year-old male from Scarborough who was attempting to open a bank account using fraudulent identification.

The accused was identified, arrested at the scene, and held in custody for a bail hearing.

As students head back to college and university, KLPS also reminds motorists to ensure all loads are properly secured when transporting belongings. Whether using a trailer, roof rack, or pickup truck, unsecured items can create serious hazards for everyone on the road.

As students return to schools across Kawartha Lakes, the Kawartha Lakes Police Service reminds all drivers to stay alert and drive attentively. School zones will be busier with children walking, cycling, and getting on and off school buses.

A proactive day for Kawartha Lakes Police Service officers resulted in two wanted persons being arrested and two uninsured vehicle charges being laid. Through downtown patrols, proactive investigations, and traffic enforcement, officers located individuals wanted by other police services and helped keep our roads safe.

Weekend Traffic Enforcement Results in Charges and Vehicle Removals

Over the weekend, Kawartha Lakes Police Service officers remained proactive with traffic enforcement efforts throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes. Officers issued numerous offence notices and warnings to motorists for various Highway Traffic Act violations.

During the course of their duties, officers identified and removed unsafe drivers and vehicles from local roadways. Enforcement actions included a traffic stop involving a suspended driver and another involving a vehicle being operated without valid insurance.

These investigations resulted in charges being laid under both the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, with the drivers required to attend court at a future date.

Kawartha Lakes Police Service remains committed to road safety through proactive traffic enforcement and reminds motorists to ensure they are properly licensed, insured, and operating their vehicles in accordance with Ontario laws.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at approximately 12:28 p.m., members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service responded to the area of Angeline Street North and Connolly Road in Lindsay following a report from a witness who observed a lone individual who appeared to be tied up.
The witness subsequently lost sight of the individual, prompting officers to conduct an extensive search of the area. The search included ground units and the deployment of a police drone to assist in canvassing the nearby wooded area. The involved individual was not located in the area.
Investigators are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the individual involved. Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have information, dash camera footage, residential security video, or other relevant recordings is asked to contact the Kawartha Lakes Police Service non-emergency line at 705-324-5252.
Information can also be provided anonymously through Kawartha Lakes Crime Stoppers.
At this time, investigators do not believe there is any concern for public safety.

Two Arrested Following Break and Enter Investigation in Lindsay
Lindsay, ON – In the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service responded to two separate calls involving a theft and a break and enter in the area of Kent Street East in Lindsay.
Through the investigation, officers reviewed CCTV footage and gathered evidence that led to the identification of suspects and the location of stolen property. Investigators subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence connected to the investigation.
As a result, the stolen property was recovered and two individuals were arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada. Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

• Theft Under $5,000, Section 334(b)
• Break and Enter, Section 348(1)(b)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Section 354(1)(a)
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order, Section 733.1(1)
• Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime, Section 355.5(b)

A female from Lindsay has been charged with:
• Trespass by Night x2, Section 177
• Theft Under $5,000 x2, Section 334(b)
• Break and Enter, Section 348(1)(b)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x2, Section 354(1)(a)
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order x2, Section 733.1(1)

Three Charged Following Fraud Investigation at Lindsay Dealership
Lindsay, ON – On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the Kawartha Lakes Police Service responded to a report of a possible fraud in progress at a local car dealership in Lindsay.

Officers attended the dealership and commenced an investigation. During the course of the investigation, several individuals were found to be in possession of fraudulent identification documents, leading to additional criminal charges.
As a result, three individuals were arrested and charged in connection with the incident. All three accused were later released from custody with future court dates.

A 59-year-old male from Milton has been charged with:
• Fraud Over $5,000, Section 380(1)(a)
• Possession of an Identity Document, Section 56.1
• Personation with Intent, Section 403(1)(b)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Section 354(1)(a)
A 24-year-old male from St. Catharines has been charged with:
• Fraud Over $5,000, Section 380(1)(a)
• Possession of an Identity Document, Section 56.1
A 31-year-old female from Concord has been charged with:
• Fraud Over $5,000, Section 380(1)(a)
• Possession of an Identity Document, Section 56.1

Mischief
On August 25, 2026, the Kawartha Lakes Police Service investigated reports of an act of mischief that was being circulated on social media involving an elementary school on Colborne Street West in Lindsay.

Sometime overnight, a wooden cross-like structure was placed near the school building with a hateful symbol attached to it. Upon police arrival, the structure had already been removed from the property.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist with the investigation, including dashcam video, to contact the Kawartha Lakes Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch at 705-324-5252 or Kawartha Haliburton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
