🎉A very important and heartwarming announcement! Thanks to the tireless work of community members and the people at Queens’ Historical Society, the Perkins House Museum has been saved from the government’s shutdown!
✊The power of a community united in a common goal is unstoppable. Queens County saw a threat to it’s tourism industry and heritage, and lept into action. Thank you to everyone who was involved.
However, it’s also important to remember why the community had to make this scramble. Our provincial government blew through their budget on unpopular policies, and told small towns they’d have to sacrifice to make up for it. Our Premier and MLA should not receive any congratulations for their negligence that led to this. Furthermore, nobody who had a part in it’s closure deserves a pat on the back.
The Special Announcement we have all been waiting for:
Message from Queens County Historical Society President, Lynn Wamboldt:
Perkins House Museum TO REMAIN OPEN THANKS TO PROVINCIAL SUPPORT!
The Perkins House Museum will not be closing—welcome news for the community and all who value the preservation of local history.
The Queens County Historical Society has received a significant and encouraging offer from the Nova Scotia Museum to help secure the future of this historic site. The proposal includes the opportunity for Perkins House to become part of the Community Museum Assistance Program (CMAP), a designation that provides operational support to community museums across the province.
Through this program, the museum will receive an approved annual grant—funding that will play a vital role in ensuring its continued operation and preservation.
The Queens County Historical Society was ecstatic to receive this offer and has formally responded with an enthusiastic “yes,” marking a turning point in the effort to safeguard one of the region’s most cherished heritage landmarks.
On behalf of the Society, President Lynn Wamboldt extends sincere thanks to the many local residents who voiced their support through comments, letters, and conversations. The outpouring of encouragement demonstrated just how deeply the Perkins House is valued within the community.
The Society also wishes to extend its deep appreciation to our MLA for Queens Kim Masland for the incredible support and advocacy in helping to keep Perkins House open.
“This has truly shown that it takes a community coming together to save an important historic icon,” said Wamboldt.
Further details, including opening dates and upcoming plans, will be announced in the near future.
For now, the message is simple: Perkins House remains—and history, for once, wins.
