This is our annual reminder to all Canadians to consider celebrating Canada Day this year with environmentally friendly alternatives, such as laser shows, drone shows, festivals, block parties, or as mentioned in the cartoon, maybe just a special treat like ice cream.

There are many ways to celebrate that don't involve burning toxic bombs in the sky for a few minutes of glee. So be the change we need to see this holiday weekend and choose to celebrate differently

This is just a quick announcement to remind everyone that Diwali is this weekend on Sunday, November 12th

If you have pets, sensory overload disorders, or know someone who does, please take caution to protect yourself and your loved ones. Check the list of approved shows, and if you are near one, try to plan ahead if you can

And please, PLEASE report every violation (link in bio) that you hear because its only through documenting them that we can eventually show city council what a mistake it was to add this holiday to the permitted dates within the local fireworks bylaw

Studies suggest that the danger of fireworks varies depending on the type of firework or pyrotechnic used. Never the less hospital visits for burns and injuries caused by fireworks always spike during the times that fireworks are sold.

Considering these safety risks and the fact that injuries associated with drone shows and laser shows are nearly negligible, doesn't it just make more sense to switch to safer alternatives?

Did you know that sparklers burn at over 1090 degrees Celsius? That's a pretty dangerous temperature to be handing to children so why not consider one of these awesome alternatives to enjoy alongside a great laser or drone show?

Piñatas, Bubbles, Noise makers, Ribbon Wand and Confetti are all significantly less dangerous, while providing just as much fun. Search online for do-it-yourself ideas for making your very own eco-friendly bubbles (with eco-friendly detergent) and confetti (with plant matter).

Please consider switching to one of these safe alternatives for your next big celebration!

Did you know that the exposure to the chemicals produced by fireworks can trigger many negative health effects?

Healthy individuals can experience any of the following symptoms if they inhale or ingest any of the toxic particles that rain down on the community during and after a fireworks show. The effects are much worse for people with pre-existing health conditions. These symptoms include:

- Coughing
- Wheezing
- Shortness of breath
- Asthma attacks
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Throat, lung & sinus irritation
- Watery, dry eyes
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea

Shouldn't something this toxic and harmful be kept out of our family and community events? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Call for Social Media Volunteers!

Our group, Londoners for "Quiet Fireworks" is looking for volunteers to help us manage our social media accounts. Aside from Facebook, we have accounts on Instagram and Twitter.

Even if you have experience in only one of these platforms, we could still use your help. We are looking for individuals who are experienced in creating graphics with Canva and who can generate social media content related to our campaign to phase out/ban fireworks. Please scroll through our content to get a sense of what we've been working on the last few weeks.

If you are interested in joining our social media team and could lend a couple of hours or more per week, please reach out to us in the comments or via direct message.

Thanks so much. We look forward to working with you.

We all know one . . . . . And, there's at least one in every neighbourhood.

Over the past few years, Londoners have grown tired of a$$***** in their neighbourhoods setting off fireworks outside of the allowable days/times.

Fireworks have been detonated on Wednesday nights at 3am and Saturday afternoons at 2pm. There's no rhyme or reason. These a$$***** like to light fireworks whenever they want.

That's why Londoners for Quiet Fireworks is calling on the City to phase out traditional fireworks, resulting in a full ban after 3 years.

If you'd like to learn more, please read our petition (and updates) at https://chng.it/yt2gxD6gLH.

Yesterday we were talking about the rising rates of firework-related injuries. There are so many less harmful ways to celebrate that don't involve losing limbs, or life.

Who's all in for laser or drone light shows? 🙋 Live music? Parades?

The Consumer Product Safety Commission in the United States has recorded a general increase in injuries caused by fireworks. It's important to note that these statistics only account for people who sought medical attention in emergency departments and those who told the truth about the source of their injuries.

If we were to account for the fact that not everyone with injuries from fireworks sought treatment at E.R.s, and the fact that some people may lie about the source of their injuries when visiting the E.R., there's a good chance that the total amount of injuries from fireworks is much higher than indicated by this graph.

Drone and laser light shows all pose significantly less risk of harm, both to people, as well as, pets and wildlife.

Considering the history of harm that fireworks have, doesn't it make sense to switch to alternatives?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks.

There are so many less harmful ways to celebrate the holidays: laser/drone light shows, live music, parade, BBQ, lanterns, glow sticks (yes, you can even get eco-friendly glow sticks), lanterns, & confetti cannons w/ eco-friendly confetti are just a few.

Can you name some more?
