"By Valour, Not Deception"

HMCS PREVOST, named after HMS Lady Prevost, a schooner brig serving with the Lake Erie Squadron, so named in honor of the wife of Sir George Prevost, the then Governor General of Canada and Commander-in-Chief, of the British Forces in North America. The commissioning pennant was therefore hoisted on the 1st of November 1941. In 1938 a London division of the Royal Canadi

an Naval Volunteer Reserve was organized comprised of 6 officers and 45 men. Quarters for the Division were situated on the second floor of the Darch Building on Talbot Street, and the Market Square was used for parade ground activities. After the outbreak of war, and the apparent inadequacy of the quarters, a move was made on the 15 November, 1939, to the Carling Block at Richmond and Carling Streets. After eighteen years in the Carling Block, a new construction program was launched in February 1956, and on Saturday, the 23rd of November 1957, the building was officially opened at the fork of Thames River. In 1963 HMCS PREVOST was closed in a drastic curtailment of expenditures for defense purposes and the building became home to the militia. PREVOST would not open again for 13 years and when it did it stood up in A Block of CFB London. 1989 PREVOST moved From CFB London back to the PREVOST Armouries and in 1990 it would be recommissioned HMCS PREVOST and has remained so ever since. "By Valour, Not Deception"

This Pride Month, His Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Prevost proudly recognizes the contributions, resilience, and service of 2SLGBTQI+ members across the Canadian Armed Forces.

As the first female Commanding Officer of HMCS Prevost, Commander Janet Lang reflects on the progress made from a time when members were forced to hide who they were, to a military where individuals can serve openly and authentically. While significant strides have been made, there is still work to do to ensure everyone has the opportunity to serve, lead, and succeed as their true selves.

This month, and every month, we celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the strength that comes from embracing different perspectives and experiences.

Happy Pride Month.

Every year on the first Sunday of May, we come together as a community to mark the Battle of the Atlantic.

Today, we honoured the sacrifices made and lives lost during this campaign, and remembered the sailors, aviators, and merchant mariners who were lost during the Second World War.

Last year, Sub-Lieutenant Chen and Acting Sub-Lieutenant Wang were recognized with the Commander Royal Canadian Navy Commendation for their role in enhancing the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial at His Majesty's Canadian Ship Prevost. Through dedicated research of archives and historical records, they helped ensure the stories and sacrifices of those who served in the Battle of the Atlantic are preserved for future generations.

As junior officers of today’s Navy, they took it upon themselves to honour those who came before them—because remembrance is a responsibility we all share.

This May 3, join us in paying tribute on Battle of the Atlantic Sunday.

The Battle of the Atlantic—widely recognized as the longest continuous military campaign of the Second World War—was fought from 1939 to 1945, with Canadian sailors playing a critical role in keeping vital supply lines open.
