UPDATE 7:43 PM: LFD is giving nearby residents and businesses the ALL CLEAR! We are wrapping up as crews extinguish hotspots. LFD Fire Investigators are now on scene. Windows may be opened and shelter in place has lifted. Thank you to all who shared info on this today!

Update 5:30 PM: fire is under control, however there is still smoke in the area. Smoke may drift into nearby residential areas, particularly along Dorinda Street and Elias Street. Residents in these areas are advised to remain indoors and shelter in place if smoke conditions are present. Current wind conditions are favourable and are expected to efficiently reduce the impact of smoke on surrounding neighbourhoods.
4:20 pm: Multiple 911 calls received about possible rail ties on fire at Elias just east of Anderson Brewery on the tracks. More to follow. Close windows in this area.

💬
Q: I’m a renter. Do the smoke alarm rules and the new 2026 carbon monoxide (CO) alarm rules apply to me?
A: Yes.

Landlords must install smoke alarms on every level and outside all sleeping areas and they must install CO alarms that meet the new 2026 requirements, maintain and test them yearly, and give tenants the alarm’s maintenance instructions.

Tenants also have responsibilities:
• report any issues
• never disable or remove the alarm (it’s against the law)
CO alarms save lives—and in rentals, fire safety is a shared job.

** UPDATE** Shelby and her pups have been adopted! Thanks all 🐾
ACFPO Hind & Shelby (available for adoption) would like to remind you that the discharging of fireworks is subject to specific rules and regulations! They are only permitted between sundown and 11 p.m on Monday, May 18 which is Victoria Day.

If discharging fireworks on the holiday be courteous of your neighbours, and be aware that many family pets and livestock can be frightened by the loud noises.

Discharge fireworks far away from combustible materials such as buildings, trees and dry grass. Never in City streets or parks. Keep well clear of any livestock and if you plan on discharging fireworks safely on your property, let your neighbours with pets and small children know in advance.

Are you interest in adopting sweet Shelby? She is waiting for you! This sweet girl is known for being a total sweetheart who absolutely loves human connection. Whether she's enjoying deep ear rubs during a read and relax session or leaning in for some serious belly rubs, Shelby's mission in life is to be near her people. Shelby is the perfect mix of an outdoor explorer and an indoor snuggle bug. To learn more about this sweet girl visit https://bit.ly/LFDpetsafety

Meet Ram, (Shelby’s pup) the boy with the "wow" factor! Ram is a stunning mix who is guaranteed to stop people in their tracks with his unique, two-colored eyes. He's a clever little guy who is already curious about everything

Ready for duty! Meet Ranger (Shelby’s pup). He's a playful, spunky boy who is always the first one to say let's go! Ranger loves a good game of tag and is already showing off the famous focus of his breeds.
