A beautiful 100 km drive southwest of Calgary on Highway 22 (also known as The Cowboy Trail) will have you in the heart of Alberta’s ranch land. The Bar U Ranch National Historic Site sprawls over 148 hectares and is accessed by horse-drawn wagon or on foot. Plan at least a half day to relax and enjoy the ranch.

Enjoy a day at the ranch and watch as 30 artists take part in a plein air (outdoor) paint out, each depicting the landscape and essence of the Bar U in their own unique style. "30 years ago, Parks Canada opened the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site to commerate the ranching industry and the history of this special place nestled in the foothills of Southern Alberta.

Mosey on down and come experience the spirit of working Canadian ranch.

Meet our cattle, pigs, and chickens and hear some amazing stories of ranch hands and cattle barons while sipping a cup of cowboy coffee —Yeehaw!

We are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until September 30. NOTE: our last entry is at 4:00 p.m.
