Pine River Watershed Initiative Network Clean water and a healthy ecosystem within the Pine River Watershed

Pine River Watershed Initiative Network (PRWIN) established goals;
1) Explore and encourage all possibilities for improvements of the Pine River watershed including prevention
2) Promote dialogue and education about watershed stewardship among all stakeholders within the watershed
3) Make stakeholders and partners aware of existing and new programs as well as funding sources that can improve the Pine River Watershed
4) Raise awareness of the needs of the Pine River Watershed and coordinate stewardship activities with stakeholders, government agencies, local business and environmental groups.

Due to the overwhelming interest in the Potted Tree Ash Replacement Program (PTARP) we found that some residents did not meet the eligibility requirements, as the program is intended for lakeshore properties affected by the Emerald Ash Borer.

To support those on the waitlist, we have set up the PRWIN Branch Out Tree Initiative to provide Huron-Kinloss residents with a tree for their property. The trees will be ready for pick up the 1st week of November and recipients of the trees will be contacted.

A lakeshore resident received junipers and beach grass through PRWIN’s Fall Shoreline Restoration Program and planted them along the shoreline. This fall, PRWIN distributed 100 junipers and 100 beach grasses to lakeshore residents in Huron-Kinloss.
These plants help stabilize sand and soils and reduce erosion. Thank you to our dedicated lakeshore landowners for doing your part to restore and protect our waterfront.
