New on our shelves...
Lawson’s Story: Living with Differences – Don’t Be Scared is a heartfelt children’s book told in Lawson’s own voice. Just days after his seventh birthday, Lawson’s life changed after a serious medical event. He can no longer walk, talk, eat, or do many things on his own the way he once could. But Lawson wants readers to know one very important thing: he is still a little boy who wants to be loved, included, understood, and treated with kindness.

Through simple, honest, and gentle words, Lawson introduces young readers to the tools and care that help him every day, including his wheelchair, standing frame, stroller, car seat, splints, feeding tube, suction machine, nebulizer, and speech device. Step by step, he shows that these things are not scary. They are part of his life, and they help him stay safe, comfortable, and connected to the people around him.

This beautifully written story helps children better understand disability, difference, and daily care in a way that feels warm, real, and easy to follow. At its heart, the book is about empathy, patience, love, and inclusion. Lawson may need extra help, but he still laughs, learns, enjoys his family, loves his brother, and wants the same things other children want, friendship, fun, and belonging.

Perfect for families, teachers, caregivers, schools, and libraries, Lawson’s Story opens the door to meaningful talks about acceptance and seeing beyond differences. It is a touching reminder that every child deserves to be seen for who they are, not for what makes them different.
