Come check out our weekly artifact at the Heritage Museum Centre!

The Heritage Museum Centre is open 7 days a week from 10am to 6:30pm by donation.

This week we are featuring our Spindles! These were used to make things like wool and flax into yarn or thread. The wooden shaft held and twisted the fibers. As the spindle rotated the fibers got twisted and would make a continuous strand. The round part of the spindle was what helped maintain the momentum of the spin. These tools were important before modern spinning machinery became a thing.

WHAT’S GOING ON OVER THERE, MAGNETAWAN?

Some GREAT news for Magnetawan and our neighbouring communities!

Representatives from the Townships of Armour, Strong and Joly, and the Municipality of Magnetawan recently met with Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and MPP for Parry Sound—Muskoka Graydon Smith to receive some very welcome news.

The Province of Ontario is investing up to $2,559,000 through the Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance (MDRA) program to help five Parry Sound District municipalities recover costs associated with the significant flooding that occurred in July 2025. The flooding caused road washouts and damage to culverts and other essential infrastructure throughout the area.

And there is especially exciting news for Magnetawan…

The Municipality of Magnetawan will receive up to $1,070,000!

This funding will help offset emergency response and repair costs, restore essential infrastructure and reduce the financial impact of the storm on our ratepayers.

We sincerely thank Associate Minister Graydon Smith and the Province of Ontario for recognizing the significant impact this weather event had on our small rural communities and for supporting us as we continue to recover, repair and rebuild stronger.

That’s what’s going on over here, Magnetawan!
