Welcome to Mahone Bay ☀️

As a councillor, I’ve recently had the opportunity to deliver some of the Town’s new Welcome Packages and spend time meeting two families who have recently made Mahone Bay their home.

It was a pleasure to sit down, hear their stories, learn where they came from, and understand what brought them to our community.

Spending time with new residents, alongside my council colleagues, Town staff, local businesses, and so many people in our community, reminds me there is a lot to be thankful for in Mahone Bay. Summer is here, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead for our town.

These Welcome Packages are designed to be more than information about municipal services — they’re an opportunity to introduce people to what makes Mahone Bay and the South Shore special: our local restaurants and retailers, community groups, artists, musicians, events, attractions, and the people who make this community feel like home.

If you’re new to Mahone Bay — or know someone who is — please reach out to Town Hall (902-624-8327) to arrange a Welcome Package.

And if you’re a local business, organization, or community group interested in contributing information, a small welcome item, or helping showcase what Mahone Bay has to offer, please connect with the Town of Mahone Bay or the Mahone Bay Tourism and Chamber of Commerce.

One thing that stood out to me is how many people choose Mahone Bay not just for where it is, but for the sense of community they hope to find here.

The boats are launched, summer has arrived, and I’m looking forward to a great season ahead.

Have you recently moved to Mahone Bay?

The Town of Mahone Bay is pleased to welcome new residents with a special Welcome Pack. Each organic cotton Town-branded market bag includes helpful local and Town information.

If you’re new to town, or know of someone who is, let us know and a Councillor will stop by with a warm welcome. Call Town Hall on 902-624-8327 or pop in to see us.

An opportunity to introduce yourselves: Local businesses are invited to contribute a small token or voucher for the Welcome Packs. Items can be dropped off at the Town Hall front office.

Welcome Newcomers!

Seize the Day – Epilepsy Walk/Run | June 6, 2026

It was my pleasure to invite the Collicutt family, Sam, Carolyn, Jen, and Jaime, to our recent Council meeting to meet with Mayor Suzanne Lohnes-Croft and my fellow councillors and share information about the upcoming Seize the Day Epilepsy Walk/Run, taking place on Saturday, June 6th at Saltbox Brewing Company.

This will be the fourth year for the event, and I first became involved last year through my connection with the Collicutt family. While epilepsy has not directly affected my own family, getting to know people living with epilepsy has helped me better understand both the challenges and the resilience of those affected.

An estimated 10,000–12,000 Nova Scotians live with epilepsy, and the condition affects people of all ages. As one of Canada's oldest provinces by population, Nova Scotia is likely to see epilepsy become increasingly common as neurological conditions associated with aging become more prevalent.

The Collicutt family received a warm welcome from Council and shared their passion for raising awareness, supporting those living with epilepsy, and building community through this event.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to participate in and be part of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run as the team spent time in Mahone Bay at the beginning of their journey through Atlantic Canada.

It was an awesome experience meeting such an inspiring group of people dedicated to promoting peace, friendship, and community connection around the world.

We welcomed the runners at the Michael O’Connor Memorial Bandstand after their visit to Bayview Community School, and I even had the honour of carrying the Peace Torch for a short stretch through town. 🔥

A big thank you to everyone involved in organizing and supporting the visit, including Mayor Suzanne Lohnes-Croft, other members of Council, Town staff, community supporters, and of course the Peace Run team themselves. You can follow their journey through Atlantic Canada https://www.peacerun.org/ca/

Safe travels on the rest of your Atlantic Canada journey! 🌎🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Good evening, Mahone Bay.

Thank you. The results are in, and I am honoured to have been elected to Town Council.

Congratulations to Katherine for Council on her election, and to the other candidates, Michelle Gryphon for Town Council, Cathie Slaughenwhite-Nowe, and Bill Lewis, each of whom brought passion for our community and thoughtful ideas about how to make our town better.

I’m grateful to everyone who voted for me, and I’m ready to begin the work alongside Council. For those I’ve had conversations with, I have listened, and I will bring voice to the important questions raised. For those I haven’t yet met, I look forward to connecting, listening, and learning.

I will serve with integrity, diligence, and care, and yes, perhaps with a bit of humour and fun along the way.

Thank you again for your trust.

Voting Reminder
Mahone Bay Municipal By-Election (February 14th)

Welcome to mid-February.
I hope you’re doing well, whether you’re enjoying the Olympics, getting outside between winter storms, or hibernating by the fire. Yes, I know a few of you who are hibernating. We’ve certainly had our share of weather lately, and I’ve been battling a cold this past week myself.

As a reminder, there are two full days remaining to cast your ballot in the by-election to fill two open Council positions for the Town of Mahone Bay.

As of today, approximately 23% of eligible voters have cast their ballots. While turnout in by-elections is typically lower than in general municipal elections, every vote matters and community participation strengthens our town.

Voting is open now and continues through Saturday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m.

You can vote:
- Online
- By phone
- In person with assistance at Town of Mahone Bay offices.

Eligible voters should have received a voter information letter with a website link, PIN number, and instructions.

Had to step out for a few photos this morning. Here’s one from after our latest snowfall, capturing some of the beauty of our town.
