Questions about Internet Voting? Here's what you need to know.

Following our recent election announcement, we've seen some questions about Internet Voting and want to clear up a common misunderstanding.

✅ You can still vote at the Municipal Office.

The Township of Manitouwadge will have a Voter Help Centre located at the Municipal Office, Council Chambers, throughout the voting period. If you prefer to vote in person, staff will be available to assist you and voting devices will be provided at voter stations with privacy screens. The difference is that your ballot will be completed electronically rather than on paper.

This is the same voting method successfully used during the 2022 Municipal Election.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still vote if I don't have a computer, smartphone, or internet access? Yes. Visit the Voter Help Centre at the Municipal Office, where devices and assistance will be available throughout the voting period.

Is Internet Voting secure? Yes. The system uses multiple security measures, including encrypted voting and unique credentials provided to eligible voters. Each elector receives a Voter Information Letter containing the information needed to access the voting system.

Will anyone know how I voted? No. Voting remains secret. Neither the Township nor the election service provider can connect a voted ballot to an individual voter.

What if the power or internet goes out? The Township has backup power and backup internet measures in place to support the voting process. If you are unable to vote from home due to a power or internet interruption, you can visit the Voter Help Centre at the Municipal Office. Township-provided voting devices will be available, or you may use your own smartphone, tablet, or laptop and connect to the Municipal Office internet to cast your ballot.

What if I'm not on the Voters' List? Eligible electors can still be added to the Voters' List, including during the voting period, provided the required eligibility documentation is supplied.

Why use Internet Voting?

✔ Vote from anywhere with internet access
✔ Longer voting period than a traditional voting day
✔ Improved accessibility and convenience
✔ No need to be in town to cast your ballot
✔ Quick and accurate electronic vote tabulation

The Township successfully used electronic voting in 2022, which resulted in our highest voter turnout to date, with approximately 55% of eligible electors casting a ballot. By comparison, the average voter turnout across Ontario in 2022 was 32.9%, based on 385 municipalities that conducted direct elections and provided voter turnout information.

More information, including voting instructions and Voter Help Centre hours, will be shared closer to the voting period.
