It is currently National Police Week across Canada, a time to recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and hard work of police officers and civilian staff who work every day to help keep our communities safe.

At the Kitigan Zibi Police Service, our team of 16 police officers and 2 civilian members are proud to serve and protect the community while building relationships based on trust, respect, and collaboration. Policing is more than responding to calls โ€” it is supporting victims, engaging with youth, assisting those in crisis, promoting safety, and working together to strengthen our community.

This yearโ€™s National Police Week theme is โ€œCommitted to Serve Together,โ€ highlighting the importance of partnerships between police services, emergency responders, organizations, and the communities we serve.

Policing often extends far beyond the end of a shift. The situations our officers witness, the calls they attend, and the experiences they carry can follow them home long after the uniform comes off. Behind every badge is a person who also makes sacrifices alongside their families in order to serve their community. To our families, migwetch for being there and supporting us.

We also want to thank our community for your continued support and trust.

Chi migwetch to everyone who contributes to making our community safer and stronger. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ

Today, May 5th, is Red Dress Day.

This day honours the memory of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people across Canada, while raising awareness about the violence that continues to impact Indigenous communities. The red dress serves as a powerful symbol of remembrance, representing the lives lost, the grief carried by families, and the strength of the communities affected.

The Kitigan Zibi Police Service stands in solidarity with the families, loved ones, and communities โ€” including our own โ€” affected by this ongoing crisis. We honour their lives, acknowledge their stories, and recognize the urgent need for continued action, awareness, and justice.

Violence against Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people is a community issue. It is everyoneโ€™s responsibility to listen, learn, speak up, and help create safer and stronger communities for all.

We encourage everyone across Canada to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honour those who are missing and those whose lives were taken too soon.

Their voices matter. Their lives matter. They are not forgotten. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ CALL FOR PARTICIPATION โ€“ KITIGAN ZIBI RESIDENTS ๐Ÿšจ

KZPS is launching an anonymous survey to better understand domestic violence in our community.

We know that domestic violence happens more often than what is reported. Your voice can help us understand the real situation and make meaningful changes.

๐Ÿ“ Why your participation matters:
โ€ข Helps us understand how many people are affected
โ€ข Identifies barriers to reporting and getting help
โ€ข Improves support our services for victims and families
โ€ข Strengthens prevention and community safety

๐Ÿ”’ 100% anonymous โ€“ no names or identifying information are collected.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Open to Kitigan Zibi residents (on reserve) - women, men, and teenagers.

By taking a few minutes to complete this survey, you are helping us build safer support systems for our community.

๐Ÿ‘‰ https://forms.gle/UJ2GXC5Sh4j25TbQ9

Some questions may be difficult. If you need support, you can contact KZPS or help listed in the survey.

Thank you for helping us make a difference. ๐Ÿค

The goal of this survey is to better understand the scope of domestic violence in Kitigan Zibi. We know that domestic violence happens often in the community, but only a small number of incidents are being reported. This survey will help us understand the situation better so we can improve support s...
