Professionalism at Maniwaki Continuing Education Centre:

At our adult education center, professionalism is rooted in compassion and respect. We prioritize leading with the heart, creating a safe and supportive environment where students feel valued and understood. We strive to be steady anchors and calm seas, guiding our students through their educational journey with empathy and patience. We treat our students as adults and partners, fostering a collaborative atmosphere where their voices are heard, and their input is valued. Through active listening and genuine engagement, we seek to understand their needs and preferences, always acting in their best interest. Decision-making is a shared process, empowering students to take ownership of their learning experience. Customization is key to our approach, recognizing that each student has unique strengths and challenges. We provide tough love from a place of compassion, offering praise, recognition, and positive feedback to encourage growth and confidence. Upholding their dignity and confidentiality is paramount, ensuring a safe and respectful space for learning. We consistently view situations through the lens of "how can I best help students," staying positive, proactive, and solution-oriented at all times. Our communication is non-confrontational, fostering understanding and cooperation. We refrain from swearing, taking things personally, or passing judgment, instead focusing on building trust and mutual respect. In summary, our professionalism is defined by our commitment to compassion, partnership, and empowerment, always striving to uphold the values of adult education in everything we do.

We are proud to participate in the walk for Truth and Reconciliation today alongside the greater Maniwaki community. Solemn and important, joining the walk is a simple action that takes a “step” beyond just talk. Action and solidarity and warm and positive interactions are also what make this event great. Proud to participate, proud to support our students and our community, and humble as ever to be warmly welcomed in on such an important day.
Thank you to the Maniwaki Native Friendship Center for your hospitality afterward. The light coloured brownies are the best!

Yesterday morning we held a beautiful memorial service for one of our own, Tara Dewache. Taken from us too early, Tara was a beloved member of our community and a beautiful and kind spirit. In commemoration of her passing, we held a ceremony yesterday with family members, students, and staff. We planted a lilac tree which we hope will grow as strong and proud as Tara was. We added to***co and said our goodbyes and committed to live well in honour of her. It is with the family's permission that we post this message in memoriam. With much love and respect, The staff and students of Maniwaki Continuing Education Centre.

Sheldon here. I would like to recognize the Maniwaki Continuing Education Centre staff and students in receiving the Local and Regional awards from 1600+ projects in the Osentreprende Challenge. The project, “The Giving Kitchen-Students Feeding Community,” provided optional hot lunches to students, with optional portions to take home to family and/or the greater community. Other partnerships in food security such as CentreAide and neighbourhood organizations were able to support us in reaching those in need. MCEC was also recognized by the OS Challenge judges for the importance of the project and its mandate for the Maniwaki region. We await the Provincial contest results on June 10, until then, there is more work to be done! Dedication and passion for those in need is the driving force behind the great work the Centre continues to perform to meet the needs of our greater community. Congratulations to staff, students and the Maniwaki region for this wonderful recognition. Sheldon Macgillivray (Centre Director, MCEC)
