Blue Lake Provincial Park is currently offering a FREE and engaging Virtual Discovery School Program called, “From Fire to Forest”.

This 45-minute virtual presentation will lead participants through features of the Jack Pine tree, how Jack Pines have adapted to survive the fire cycle of the Boreal Forest, and how natural wildfires can be beneficial for an ecosystem. This program is designed to meet expectations outlined in the Grade 3 Science and Technology curriculum – Growth and Changes in Plants.

🌲⛺️Today is the last day of the 2026 season at Neys.
🙌 Whether you visited the park for the first time, attended the revival of Neys Days or one our Discovery Programs, swam in The Big Lake, enjoyed our stunning sunsets, caught a Lake Trout, thanked park staff for taking care of the park, saw Aurora Borealis put on a show, purchased some Neys merch, hiked our lovely trails, or simply connected with the land in your own unique way, we cannot thank you enough for making Neys’ 61st operating season such a special one! A huge thank you to everyone that visited this year and to our outstanding staff and their hard work and dedication all season!

If you have been exploring around the park this fall, you may have noticed some new ‘camping accommodations’ added to the park.

No…they aren’t new cabins for campers; these accommodations are three Canadian made bat boxes.

🦇Welcome back to our ecological showcase series, read along to see how we at Neys are lending a helping hand to a special nighttime neighbour who calls Neys their home—Little Brown Bat, a.k.a Little Brown Myotis!

🚨Little Brown Bats live a tough life throughout Ontario. They are an endangered species, which means they are facing imminent extinction or extirpation. One of leading factors which contributes to Little Brown Bats being listed as endangered is due to a disease known as white nose syndrome, caused by a fungus which is believed to have been inadvertently brought from Europe to North America. The fungus grows in humid cold environments, such as the caves and mines where little brown bats hibernate. The syndrome affects bats by disrupting their hibernation cycle, so that they use up body fat supplies before the spring when they can once again find food sources.

🪟Last fall, we had had a special visitor at Neys’ Visitor Centre—Carl the campground Little Brown Bat (pictured in photos 5-6). Carl, which campers named, enjoyed hanging out along the Visitor Centre for two weeks. However, when Carl was roosting during the day, they were exposed to many elements of North Shore that once can experience during the fall—high winds, rain, coolers temperatures, predators, and much more!

🦇📦Our bat boxes at Neys, which were setup but our amazing maintenance team in active bat areas, will ensure that Carl and his many friends and family will have a safe and secure place to roost during the day. Once a bat colony is established utilizing our bat boxes, members from our ecology team will set up a monitoring plan to find out more about Neys’ Little Brown Bat population.

Welcome back to another ! This week is a special one, for we are featuring one of our longest working and most underrated staff members: Area 4 Campground!

🌲Years with Ontario Parks: 61 years, but I’ve been here long before the park was established!

🏕️Park(s) you would like to visit? Komoka Provincial Park; I’ve always wanted to visit the Carolinian Region of Ontario!
🌅Favourite thing(s)to do along the North Shore? Watch the sunsets over Little Pic River.
🚂Favourite item(s) at the gatehouse? The magnets featuring the view from the boat launch with the train bridge in the background!
🥾Favourite spot or trail at Neys? The Lookout Trail! I may be a little biased since it’s located in my campground, but it offers one of the most rewarding lookouts in the entire park and offers something for everyone.
🔥Favourite thing about working at Neys? Getting to witness all the core memories being made by campers, and the smells of all the amazing meals made over the campfire!
🌠If you could be a plant or animal at Neys, what would you be? Hmmmm, this is a tricky one but I would love to be a northern flying squirrel. They are always gliding through my trees at night and that seems like a lot of fun!

Area 4 Campground is one of the most under appreciated staff members at Neys! From a more quiet and cozy camping experience, to stunning lookouts from the boat launch and Lookout Trail, and incredible fall colours of golden birches lighting up the campground, Area 4 has something for everyone. So let’s give some much needed love to Area 4 by letting us know if the comments what you appreciate about it!

🌅It’s not only the golden yellows of poplar and birch campers get to enjoy this time of year. Neys’ sunsets light up the sky with vibrant oranges, pinks, and reds.

🏕️With fall colours at their peak and sunsets like this, October camping at Neys is truly a special experience.
