Muslim Youth and Family Services (MYFS), was initiated by the late Naheed Yusuf, with the help of her family and a few friends, in the late 90s as her independent and sole initiative. We have now formalized it and have registered as a not-for-profit corporation aiming to work closely with children’s aid societies in the GTA to improve social services for the Muslim youth and families. It is our mi
ssion to promote connections between Muslim youth in foster care and their community; to encourage positive relationships between the community and existing social services, and to assist Muslim families in receiving the support and social services they need to thrive with dignity. To that end, one initiative we are working hard on is developing an online portal that aims to provide easy access to the resources they would need. Another initiative is to connect with the Muslim youth in care by creating awareness of Muslim festivals and occasions. About Children’s Aid Societies
Several children’s aid societies work across Ontario and Canada for the protection of children. They work within their community to investigate alleged abuse and neglect in children. They look after children that are taken into their care due to abuse, neglect or loss of caregivers, and provide counselling and support to children and families. Toronto Children's Aid Society (TCAS) is one such organization with whom we have commenced collaboration. We hope to work with other such societies that exist in the GTA as we enlarge our scope.
