Marmora & Lake Fire and Emergency Services is asking residents this Victoria Day weekend when using fireworks to be cautious.

If you choose to have a fireworks display, please note that fireworks are only permitted to be set off from Dusk to 11pm on the same day. Please review and follow 2022-09 Noise & Fireworks Bylaw link here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rJtLIEKJSqeNeAR0KOuwJGNFsrONjBPB/view.

Tips and reminders:

Appoint a responsible person to be in charge. Only adults who are aware of the hazards and essential safety precautions should handle and discharge fireworks.
Carefully read and follow the label directions on fireworks packaging.
Always keep a water hose or pail of water close by when discharging fireworks.
Discharge fireworks well away from combustible materials like buildings, trees and dry grass.
Keep onlookers a safe distance away, upwind from the area where fireworks are discharged.
Light only one firework at a time and only when they are on the ground. Never try to light a firework in your hand or re-light dud fireworks. For dud fireworks, it is best to wait 30 minutes and soak them in a bucket of water. Dispose of them in a metal container.
Discharge fireworks only if wind conditions do not create a safety hazard.

Have a safe and fun Victoria Day weekend!

As of today, April 1st, burn permits are required for open-air fires and burn barrel/incinerators. The time for burning with a permit is 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. You do not need a burn permit for small contained fires that are for food or warmth.

Burn permits are not available within the boundaries of the villages of Deloro and Marmora, as open-air burning and burn barrels are prohibited within the villages.

Complete the online form to get your permit. It is available on the homepage of the municipal website, in the Quick Links list. You can also find it here: https://marmoraandlake.ca/burn-permit-form

Adequate data has been presented to lift the current "Restricted Fire Ban".
It is the Marmora & Lake Fire Departments intention to notify the public of this decision and with a coordinated effort we can collectively announce this to take effect today October 16, 2025, at 4:30pm.
We would also like to remind everyone this continues to be an unusually dry summer- fall season.
A level of caution must be maintained to reduce the risk of uncontrolled fire and protect public safety.
