PUBLIC NOTICE | FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Tomorrow, September 2, is the first day of school for students in Marmora and Lake.

It's everyone's responsibility to make sure students get to school safely. It takes a village.

Allow yourself a few extra minutes for your morning commute, and remember to:

- Stop for buses. All traffic must stop for buses with red flashing lights. It's the law.
- Give space. Stop at a safe distance to allow children to get on and off the bus.
- Use extra caution at crosswalks and watch for crossing guards helping little ones to cross the street.
- Obey posted speed limits in our community, and in school zones.

Together, we can make sure everyone has a great first day of school tomorrow.

PUBLIC NOTICE | NATHAN RUNIONS MEMORIAL SPLASH PAD

For the remainder of August and September, the hours for the Nathan Runions Memorial Splash Pad will change slightly.

The splash pad will be open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weekends (Saturday and Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Clerk has completed the certification process and the list of Certified Candidates for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections is now available on the municipal website: https://marmoraandlake.ca/2026-list-of-certified-candidates The list has also been posted at Town Hall.

Please note that the Municipality cannot facilitate candidate campaigns, meetings or debates. It is our responsibility to ensure the integrity of the voting process, which means remaining impartial towards all candidates.

SMALL BUSINESS FUNDING OPPORTUNITY

Applications are now open for the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) Program: Small Business stream.

ROD is a rural-focused funding program provided through the Government of Ontario.

Businesses can get 35% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of $10,000 in funding for a Project under the ROD Program.

The project must fit into one or more of the project types, including:

☑️ Market development
☑️ Enhancing cyber security
☑️ Succession planning
☑️ Accessibility improvements

Applications are due by October 1, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Today is candidate certification day.

Municipal clerks across the province are reviewing nominations to confirm that candidates meet the legislative requirements to run for office. Once certified, candidates are officially in the race.

PUBLIC NOTICE | SPLASH PAD CLOSED

The Nathan Runions Memorial Splash Pad will be closed today due to a technical issue that's causing the water to run continuously.

Parks and Recreation staff are working on finding the root cause of the problem. For now, they have turned off the water.

Thanks for your patience as we work to get it up and running again.

We will update this post and our website when we know more.
