The Client Services & Training Coordinator is a hybrid role that supports the delivery of employment and training services across Haida Gwaii, with a primary base in Masset.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Hecate Strait Employment Development Society (HSEDS) is a non-profit organization governed by

a Board of Directors with a mandate to provide employment programming and training to enhance

opportunities for residents of the North Coast, Haida Gwaii, and Bella Bella. HSEDS provides

resources for jobseekers, newcomers, employers, and new entrepreneurs. Our mission is to serve

and build connections for people to reach their employment, training, and settlement goals.

Our vision is to be a catalyst for people to build success in the evolving economy.

The Client Services & Training Coordinator is a hybrid role that supports the delivery of

employment and training services across Haida Gwaii, with a primary base in Masset. This position

is designed to enhance on-island client services, strengthen office and program coordination, and

expand training opportunities in alignment with community and labour market needs.

Approximately 60% of the role focuses on office operations, facilities support, team coordination,

and WorkBC program support. The remaining 40% focuses on the design, delivery, coordination,

and evaluation of training workshops for job seekers, community members, and HSEDS program

participants.

This role provides day-to-day coordination and service support and does not include formal staff

supervision or performance management responsibilities.

To succeed in this role, you will:

• Care about community-based service delivery and positive client experiences

• Be comfortable balancing coordination, facilitation, and administrative responsibilities

• Demonstrate strong organization, adaptability, and follow-through

• Be willing to learn and work within WorkBC systems, policies, and compliance

requirements

• Bring a collaborative, respectful approach when working with staff, partners, and

communities

• Commit to ongoing learning and continuous improvement as this newly created role

evolves

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Office Management & WorkBC Program Coordination (Approximately 60%)

• Oversee daily operations of the Masset office, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and efficient

service environment for clients and staff

• Provide day-to-day coordination and support to a multi-site service delivery team; serve as

a resource for staff questions related to service delivery and WorkBC processes

• Carry and manage an assigned client caseload, providing Employment Advisor–level

services including intake, assessment, action planning, service coordination,

documentation, and follow-up, in accordance with WorkBC policies and procedures.

• Coordinate office services, including supplies, equipment, IT requests, maintenance,

security, and vendor communication

• Conduct routine facility checks and liaise with the Building Coordinator to arrange repairs

and upgrades

• Support the coordination and delivery of WorkBC programming on-island, including labour

market activities, documentation support, and compliance tasks as directed by leadership

• Assist with onboarding new staff in collaboration with Human Resources and management,

including orientation, training support, and systems access coordination

• Maintain collaborative relationships with employers, community organizations, Indigenous

communities, and service partners to support training and employment opportunities

• Coordinate certificate-based training, local events, and community engagement initiatives

• Participate in cross-department planning, organizational initiatives, and project-based work

• Provide front-line client service and support as needed to ensure continuity of service

delivery

Training Facilitation (Approximately 40%)

• Deliver engaging workshops and training sessions on employability skills, essential skills,

life skills, and labour-market–related topics using culturally informed and inclusive

approaches

• Design and prepare course materials that reflect adult education principles and local labour

market needs, including land-based or culturally relevant elements when appropriate

• Market training opportunities, manage participant registration, maintain waitlists, and track

attendance

• Deliver training in both virtual and in-person formats, adapting content and methods for

diverse learning styles

• Prepare, collect, and analyze training evaluations to support reporting and continuous

improvement

• Monitor participant engagement and progress and support positive training outcomes

• Maintain and update the training curriculum library; research and develop new workshop

topics based on community and employer needs

• Support proposal development and program planning for training initiatives in collaboration

with leadership

• Work collaboratively across departments to identify training priorities for clients and

program participants

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Social Services, Adult Education,

Community Development, or a related field

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in office management, service delivery, adult

education, facilitation, or related areas

• Knowledge of local labour markets, employer needs, and community resources on Haida

Gwaii

• Strong digital literacy, including Microsoft Office, online learning platforms, and virtual

meeting tools

• Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills with the ability to motivate and

engage adult learners

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a regional team

• Experience working with Indigenous communities and diverse client groups

• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

• Access to a reliable personal vehicle for travel between communities as required

• A current satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) as a

condition of employment

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Compensation and benefits for this position are governed by the applicable Terms of Employment.

Eligible full-time employees may participate in HSEDS benefit programs, subject to the terms and

conditions of the applicable benefits plans. HSEDS offers paid vacation, paid sick leave,

discretionary paid days off, and professional development opportunities in accordance with

organizational policy and individual Terms of Employment.
