In 2025, 23% of calls received by the Meadow Lake Fire Department were alarm activations where no emergency was found also known as false alarms. Many of these calls are caused by improperly maintained security systems, incorrect or outdated contact information, or alarm company verification calls that go unanswered.

Every page requires firefighters to gear up and respond, even when no emergency exists. These responses take time and resources away from emergencies and place unnecessary wear on personnel and equipment.

Property owners can play a helpful role in reducing the number of false alarms by keeping alarm systems well maintained, ensuring their alarm companies have up-to-date contact information, and answering alarm verification calls. These simple steps can significantly reduce false alarm calls and in turn keep the community safe by ensuring the department is available when needed.

Happy new year to all from the Meadow Lake Fire Department.

2025 was a very busy year for the department. We had a record breaking 221 calls this year including one massive industrial fire call that lasted over 50 continuous hours.

On top of the record breaking calls the department did over 100 hours of training, volunteered in various community events, and had 3 firefighters go to assist with the wild fires up north.

Like many departments, we have felt the impact of the shortage of new people stepping into the emergency services space. Despite that, our firefighters showed up and continued to serve this community. We are incredibly proud of the things our department have done this year.

We plan to continue to our dedicated service throughout 2026. If you are interested in serving your community along side us, visit https://www.meadowlake.ca/m/fire-rescue/joining for information on how to join.

We hope everyone has a safe holiday season with lots of food, laughter and love. đź’ťđźš’

It was a privilege to have served alongside the other fire departments during this summer’s wildfire season.

Today, the Saskatcewan government awarded the Premier’s Commendation Award to 64 volunteer and municipal fire departments, and the tribal council partners whose type 2 firefighters heroically protected communities and supported our fellow Saskatchewan residents when they were in need during the 2025 wildfire season.

This year’s program was dedicated to those who responded to the 2025 wildfires, honouring their extraordinary efforts during this summer’s unprecedented wildfire season.

Congratulations to the recipients of the Premier’s Commendation – you and your teams exemplified resilience and embodied the spirit of Saskatchewan – remaining steadfast, dedicated, and courageous in the face of danger.

Your commitment to protecting Saskatchewan families reflects the very best of our province. Thank you to all who served. So proud that so many of our members make up this incredible group of people. On behalf of the entire SVFFA organization thank you for your service once again.!

This weekend a few of our firefighters took part in vehicle extrication training, practicing the tools and techniques used in vehicle collision rescues.

Additionally, the crew participated in vehicle fire training during our regular Tuesday night practice yesterday and were joined by the Goodsoil Fire Department!

Carbon monoxide is known as the invisible killer because you can’t see or smell it.

Install carbon monoxide alarms outside each sleeping area and on every level of your home.

Test alarms monthly to make sure they’re working properly.

Last week was one of the busiest and most demanding weeks our department has faced. We responded to an extensive fire that kept our crews working tirelessly from Monday morning straight through to Wednesday evening.

While managing that major incident, our firefighters responded to two additional fire calls on Monday, ensuring that every call for help in our community was answered without delay.

Even after the main incident was under control and our members returned to the station, the work didn’t stop there. The crew continued working for another 4 hours, cleaning up emergency vehicles, equipment and gear, conducting equipment checks, and restocking supplies, all while still responding to yet another emergency call.

We want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to every member of the Meadow Lake Fire Department. Your commitment, courage and determination embody what it means to serve.

A heartfelt thank you as well to our neighbors at the Goodsoil Fire Department for their help throughout the incident. Your teamwork and support make all the difference when the pressure is on.

We are incredibly proud of our firefighters who continually put their skills, strength, and hearts into protecting our community. Thank you for everything you do, day and night. ❤️🚒

To the firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and volunteers who show up, day or night, in rain or fire, calm or chaos, thank you.

You don’t ask for recognition.
But today, we make sure you get it.

Your courage saves lives.
Your service strengthens communities.
Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed.

From all of us at Active911:
Thank you for answering the call.

Fire Chief Grela had the opportunity to visit our twin Fire Department in the district of Wettelbrunn in Staufen, Germany! This partnership with the Wettelbrunn Volunteer Fire Department has been ongoing since 2005. 🌍🚒

Our partnership began with an exchange student. The exchange student happened to be a junior firefighter back in Germany and was curious about the Meadow Lake Fire Department. This exchange student wanting to see what firefighting was like in our community sparked a friendship that’s lasted for 20 years!

During the visit, Chief Grela had the chance to reconnect with our German friends, share stories, and see firsthand how our departments, though miles apart, share the same values of service, teamwork, and dedication.

It’s amazing how something that started with one exchange student has grown into a lasting international friendship. Here’s to many more years of partnership between our two departments! 🔥🔥
