Here are a couple of key items that are on the Medicine Hat City Council Meeting Agenda for Tuesday, September 8:

🛣️ Riverside Corridor Enhancement Project
Council will receive a presentation on the findings of Public Engagement for the Riverside Corridor Enhancement Project outlined in the What We Heard Report.

🤽 Facilities for the Future
Council will consider a recommendation to move forward on commencing the South Outdoor Aquatics project by re-issuing a request for proposal, entering into negotiations to acquire land, and exploring funding opportunities. They will also consider developing a Recreation Facilities for the Future Framework to guide long-term facility planning, investment, prioritization, and service delivery decisions.

We're changing the designated off-leash areas within our trail network to improve safety, predictability, clarity, and overall enjoyment.

Starting Tuesday, September 8, all parks, trails, and open spaces will be on-leash unless specifically designated as off-leash areas. Signage will be clearly displayed when entering and exiting off-leash areas.

The city’s new designated off-leash areas will include the existing, fenced, off-leash dog parks (Westvue and Saratoga), as well as three unfenced off-leash areas:
📍 A section of Echo Dale Regional Park
📍 A section along Ranchlands/Parkview
📍 A section of the Ross Glen natural area

The decision to change designated off-leash areas was made based on public engagement and feedback which indicated a need to prioritize safety, clarity, and predictability for all trail users.

Welcome to our 2026/27 season! ⭐

Opening this Saturday at the Esplanade is Wings of Wonder: Artists Reimagine the Ukrainian Folk Tale!

The exhibition presents contemporary artistic renderings of Ukrainian lore. The spirit of which is described by exhibiting artist Liliya Kostiyuk as "slightly humorous, somewhat adventurous, filled with imagination and rich is national colour." In a time of conflict and foreign occupation, these expressions are a form of cultural preservation and soft resistance. They reflect the spirit, wisdom, hopes, and dreams of Ukrainian people.

Organized by Sierra Zukowski, TREX Southeast, Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre in partnership with the Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts. 🦋

🚌 Route 10 changes are coming into effect tomorrow for Medicine Hat Transit which will improve schedule reliability across all routes!

Transit has had trouble staying on time on Route 10. During times of increased ridership this can mean missed connections which affect the schedules of other buses in the system.

After conducting a survey with transit riders to address this issue, especially those who utilize Route 10, the attached map shows how Route 10 will run as of August 27.

The route had previously travelled west down 12 Street NE. The three stops on the north side of this section will be serviced by the existing Route 11 stops on the south side of 12 Street. Two southbound stops on Division Avenue have also been removed with this change – they will be serviced by the existing Route 10 stops on the east side of the street. Signage has been placed at these removed stops indicating the nearest stop to access.

These Route 10 changes are a result of survey feedback surrounding these proposed changes, including how riders use the route. 560 transit users submitted feedback, including the following:
▫️ 76% indicated that changes to improve on-time performance were important to them.
▫️ 73% indicated that these changes either don’t affect – or positively affect – their current travel habits.
▫️ 88% of responses indicated that it would be easy to adjust accessing their stop from a different location or route nearby if needed.
▫️ Nearly 70% of responses indicate they’re okay using a different route or the other side of the street to access transit services.
