670 Collective Mountain Bike Club is a registered non-profit, volunteer-run organization affiliated with the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA). Located in the beautiful Canadian Badlands, we are the voice of the off-road cycling community in and around Medicine Hat, Alberta. Our hard working members not only design, build, and maintain sustainable trails in the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park and South Saskatchewan River Valley, but we are also the initiators of the Redcliff Bike Skills Park. Rewarded with one of the longest riding seasons in the country, local mountain bikers ride two distinctive landscapes within an hour of each other making it an exciting and unique riding destination. 670 Collective riders race across western Canada and the US, collect and fix bikes for underprivileged kids, travel abroad to other popular riding locations and are the organizers of the Battle Creek Showdown, a fun weekend of mountain bike racing and live music in Elkwater.

Trail crew was out on Smithers early this morning dealing with an obstacle local wildlife decided to put in our way.
This year with the water, weather and wildlife Smithers has required a lot of attention (arguably could use more).
We appreciate all the volunteers who have been out working and the public who lets us know when something needs attention!

Even though these are city trail, 670mtnbike & Madhattersrunningclub are who keeps these maintained with volunteers.

Caution on The Coker!

The giant sinkhole is back and has gotten worse. Anyone who has been on The Coker in Echodale over the last couple of weeks knows the area by the 2nd bridge down from the paved path has been muddy and extremely wet. The sinkhole right by the bridge has eroded away underneath the lip and is a significant hazard.

If you’re riding out there use caution!

Hey 670mtnbike ! The bridge is in!

Club members spent today building the new bridge on Death Valley in Redcliff since the old one had become a dam. It’s ready to roll, and we had a rider come up as the last two planks were being screwed in to take the first few passes!

Big thanks to the extra hands who came out early this morning to help haul lumber into the build site. That was for sure the hardest part of the build!

Bridge out on Death Valley!

Hey 670mtnbike the trail crew was out this morning lifting the old bridge on Death Valley to prep for the new one going in this weekend. It had sunken and become a dam over the years.

They trenched the water flow back to where it wanted to go naturally and the new build will be higher off the ground to allow the flow to keep going when the rains and melt are high.

If you’re riding Death Valley this weekend use caution, that area is still crossable but you may have to dismount. Please don’t “help” by moving any of the big rocks that were dug out and placed on the sides, as those will be used as part of the new feature.

Hey 670mtnbike ! Well as the days are getting shorter and a bit cooler at night, the fall is bringing us lots of riding time still ahead. Get some lighting on your bars and helmets because many of our local trails ride great on fall nights with low light.

This week work on Smithers has continued and we’ve taken care of a bunch of the low leaners that ran the risk of making a rider a Headless Horseman, while still keeping the enchanted forest feel. Everything West of the new bridge should ride safer now.

We’re going to be working on an upgrade of a low bridge on Death Valley out in Redcliff over the next couple of weeks. The bulk of the work will take place leading into Thanksgiving weekend but the old bridge will be lifted ahead of that to allow the area to dry out a bit (hopefully). If you’re riding that trail end of this week and into next you may find no bridge where you’re used to a bridge.

Smithers has a new bridge!
This weekend we built a bridge over the large downed tree on Smithers. Still needs a bit of grip paint that will be added over the next while (pressure treated lumber is slippery when wet!) Will also need a bit of dirt work on the west side ramp lip.

Hey 670mtnbike ! We’re back with your trail report!

After an amazing race weekend last week in Elkwater at the BCS the team Western Trail Fabricators Ltd. is prepping to wind down a bit. They put a new drop in Tragically Steep as well as work on an existing one that was less than ideal. Also some time fixing up Flatten the Curve due to extra traffic during Enduro. Huge thank you to our friends out there for making sure the trails were in top shape for BCS.

In Medicine Hat it’s been a few weeks since we’ve been on the mowers, and Viper, Sidewinder and Cobra Chicken are a bit furry. We were out yesterday on Smithers dealing with some downed trees and low hanging branches (1 & 2). Smithers is also a bit long in some sections and could use a fall trim.

Out in Redcliff our amazing club volunteers put in a few hours doing some water mitigation as well as rock work on Death Valley. As well some mowing was done on Tequila Sunrise. Frigidaire and Billy Goat need some club attention to get trimmed before the fall.

Over the next several weeks our community Danger Noodles will be making their way back to their fall/winter homes so be vigilant and keep an eye out on the trails!
