Our Story

Our Vision was re-established during our 2018/19 Strategic Planning. The Merritt and District Chamber of Commerce strives to be; "The collective voice of business supporting responsible economic growth and prosperity in Merritt and the Nicola Valley"

On March 17th, 1914, the Board of Trade officially recognized the "Merritt Board Of Trade" under the provisions of the Board of Trade Act, making it one of the longest standing Chambers in both British Columbia and Canada.

At a General Meeting of the Board of Trade, held in Merritt BC on December 7th, 1965, an petition was made to change the name from the Merritt Board of Trade to the Merritt and District Chamber of Commerce, futher sanctioned on December 13th, 1965. On Monday, January 31st, 1966, His Excellency, The Governonr General in Council, upon recommendation of the Secretary of State, granted pursuant to section 39 of the Board of Trade Act, the name change to the Merritt and District Chamber of Commerce.

The Merritt District Chamber of Commerce mandate, which aligns with the BC and Canadian Chamber of Commerce, clearly defines that business advocacy remains our core focus to this day. The Merritt and District Chamber of Commerce continues to consistently engage with decision makers to communicate our members views on policies and issues in the interest of driving business in Merritt, the Nicola Valley, and the surrounding areas that we represent.
