🔥TRAINING NOTICE - WILDFIRE TRAINING🔥

Midway Fire Rescue will be conducting a wildfire training exercise tonight beginning at approximately 7:00 PM in the vicinity of Mill Beach approx 3km down Myers Creek Road/Central Ave.

This training is part of our ongoing efforts to keep our members’ wildfire response skills sharp and ensure we are prepared to respond effectively when a real emergency occurs.

🚒 Please be aware: Residents and motorists in the area may see fire apparatus with emergency lights activated operating in and around the training area.

⚠️ This is NOT a real emergency. It is a planned training event. Please try to avoid this area if possible.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while our members train to better serve our communities.

Given the scope and scale of wildfires currently burning in B.C., and to further protect public safety, recreational off-road vehicle use will be prohibited on Crown land in the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, as well as parts of the Cariboo and Coastal Fire Centres. This prohibition is effective immediately, as of 12 p.m. (noon) on August 10, 2026.

An EVACUATION ORDER has been issued for Summerland in its entirety. Residents on evacuation order should leave their properties immediately to keep safe. Residents must evacuate to the evacuee reception centres located at: Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, 273 Power Street, Penticton, 550 Eckhardt Avenue W, Penticton, or Westbank Lions Community Hall, 2466 Main Street, West Kelowna.

Dom started his journey with Midway Fire Rescue back in high school as a junior firefighter. Over the years, we’ve watched him mature, grow as a leader, step up for his community, and show incredible dedication to the team. While we are definitely going to miss having him around the hall, we couldn’t be prouder of him as he heads off to trade school!

Thank you for your service, your hard work, and for always being a reliable teammate, Dom. The hall will always have your back!

We know you’re going to crush this next chapter, good luck Brother.

The "W***y" fire south of Midway east of Toroda, Washington has been moderately contained, and is being held in its footprint. The hard work of the pilots and ground crews have done excellent work attempting to contain this fire.

A huge thank you to the US firefighters for their hard work today.

Midway Fire Rescue is aware of a wildland fire between Midway, BC and Curlew, Washington, East of Toroda, WA.

The "W***y" fire is at 48.98.93, -118.64.89 and is currently 24 acres in size. They have a number of aerial attacks (planes and helicopters) on the fire and currently the fire is "23 acres" in size.

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary and the Village of Midway are monitoring the situation and will provide further information if necessary.

Effective at 12 .p.m. (noon) Pacific Time on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Category 1 campfire will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre.

A Category 1 campfire refers to any fire that burns:
- No larger than 0.5 metres in height and 0.5 metres in width
- Used for recreational purposes or by a First Nation for ceremonial purposes

Also prohibited are the following equipment and activities:
- Air curtain burners
- Carbonizers
- Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of BC
- Binary exploding targets
- Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
- Controlled air incinerators
- Sky lanterns
- Wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens, and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building

This prohibition does not include the use of outdoor stoves. As per the Wildfire Regulation, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel or gaseous fuel and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.
