Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) PT on Friday, September 18, 2026, Category 3 open fire will once again be permitted throughout the Southeast Fire Centre.

Anyone planning to conduct a Category 3 burn must obtain a burn registration number ahead of time by completing the BC Wildfire Burn Registration Form or calling 1-888-797-1717.

Before lighting a fire of any size, check local conditions, follow all open burning requirements and confirm there are no additional restrictions in place from local governments.

Midway Firefighters would like to thank Operation Little Black Dress/ Kootenay / Boundary!

They donated $2,000.00 to the Midway Volunteer Fire Department Association, as a part of their annual Black Dress Hike. We appreciate being in their thoughts for such an amazing contribution.

On this day, we don't just look back in sorrow; we also look back in profound gratitude for one of the greatest displays of human kindness in modern history.

When the world stopped on 9/11 and North American airspace closed, 38 commercial planes were forced to land in the tiny town of Gander.

In an instant, a community of 9,400 residents welcomed nearly 7,000 stranded strangers from all corners of the globe.For five days, the people of Gander—and surrounding communities like Gambo, Appleton, Glenwood, Norris Arm, and Lewisporte—did something extraordinary. They didn't just provide shelter; they opened their hearts.

To the incredible residents of Gander: thank you for reminding us that even in our darkest hours, humanity’s light shines brighter than any tragedy. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Let us never forget 343. ❤️ Those that gave their life in service, and those that continue to fall due to exposure while responding after the attacks.

Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Time on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be permitted throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, which includes the Rocky Mountain Natural Resource District and the Selkirk Natural Resource District.

Other activities which were previously included in the Category 1 campfire prohibition (The use of sky lanterns, and the use of wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building) will now be permitted in the Southeast Fire Centre.

Category 2 and 3 open fire as defined in the Wildfire Regulation remains prohibited.

🔥TRAINING NOTICE - WILDFIRE TRAINING🔥

Midway Fire Rescue will be conducting a wildfire training exercise tonight beginning at approximately 7:00 PM in the vicinity of Mill Beach approx 3km down Myers Creek Road/Central Ave.

This training is part of our ongoing efforts to keep our members’ wildfire response skills sharp and ensure we are prepared to respond effectively when a real emergency occurs.

🚒 Please be aware: Residents and motorists in the area may see fire apparatus with emergency lights activated operating in and around the training area.

⚠️ This is NOT a real emergency. It is a planned training event. Please try to avoid this area if possible.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while our members train to better serve our communities.

Given the scope and scale of wildfires currently burning in B.C., and to further protect public safety, recreational off-road vehicle use will be prohibited on Crown land in the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, as well as parts of the Cariboo and Coastal Fire Centres. This prohibition is effective immediately, as of 12 p.m. (noon) on August 10, 2026.
