Contest alert! It is coming up to that time of year again where we remember those that have served and are currently serving to protect the peace and freedom that we enjoy here in Canada. If you are a student whose hobby is writing, art, photography, or videography, there is a contest for you! Information and entry forms available in the library at FKSS. The contest is open to all students from Kindergarten up to Grade 12, with the following categories:
Posters: Colour or Black & WhiteLiterary: Essay or Poem
Video
Photography – New for BC and Yukon only
Entries for posters and literary work should be submitted to the Legion branch closest to your school. If you are unsure which branch that is, please use this link: https://legionbcyukon.ca/find-a-legion-branch/. The deadline for poster and literary submissions is November 15, 2025. Student in Grade 7-12 who wish to enter the video category must submit their entries online at RemembranceContests.ca the deadline is December 15, 2026. Photography is open to students from Grades 4-12 and should be submitted to [email protected]. The school packages are being emailed to all schools in BC and Yukon. Thank you to all of the youth and staff who made this day so meaningful - it was truly a day of collaboration and learning together. Today our students are attending assemblies, Sulhween Snuwuyulh Elder Teachings, to recognize the upcoming Truth & Reconciliation Day. We welcome our special guests from Malahat, Randy and Jennifer Daniels and Wes Edwards. There is also a traditional food offering and Tzinquaw Dancers at lunch. We encourage conversations with your children about what they experienced today as we can all help make this world a better place going forward.
