Our Kelsey Kafe is serving for this week only and will be closed after Friday until next fall. Please note that if people will be walking to Mill Bay to find food, THE TRAIL IS CLOSED due to active logging and construction of the new Pioneer Square development and we ask that students please act responsibly and safely on the very busy Mill Bay-Shawnigan road and the TCH.

We have a new space called Bon Bon's Bistro! Our small dining room has been transformed into a coffee house vibe that serves a limited selection of coffee drinks in the morning. It is an addition to our Kafe to help students learn more barista-like skills for the food and beverage industry.

As the trail at the end of our driveway is now under active logging and construction for the next several years, many students will be on the road when they head to Mill Bay. We strongly urge parents to remind their children to be careful when walking on Mill Bay Shawnigan Road as there is little to no shoulder in some areas and the slight hill makes for a blind spot for vehicles. As the road is also straight, speed of vehicles is a concern, so we urge our community drivers to PLEASE WATCH FOR THE STUDENTS and take extra care. They are teenagers and sometimes responsible decision-making skills are still in progress!

A big congratulations to Charlotte Gough, who recently represented our school at the BC High School Track and Field Championships. Charlotte had an amazing showing, finishing 5th in the Senior Girls 1500m and 7th in the 800m against some of the best runners in the province. Off the track, Charlotte has also made a great contribution to our school’s track program. As part of her leadership course, she helped design the new school singlets, which our athletes will be proud to wear in future seasons. Photo and info credit - Brian Simmons.

Let them eat cake! Foods 9 classes baked vanilla layer cakes (a total of 32 cakes by three classes). Learners were then challenged to ice and decorate using small amounts of fresh fruit and garnish from the garden including lemon balm, mint, and sage. Cakes were judged by special guest student and staff judges for artistry and best cake “crumb” . The Foods students took their work very seriously with some definite cake decorators in our midst! Shout out to Ms. Kaye for organizing the event.
