We’re putting the finishing touches on our newest exhibitions and can’t wait to welcome everyone during out Opening Reception THIS SATURDAY June 20! Drop in from 1–4 pm, with artist remarks at 2 pm. We’ll have coffee, tea, and light refreshments, and everyone is welcome.

Opening in our Main Gallery is "Wildfire: An Exhibition Exploring Patterns, Devastation & Uncertainty in the Time of Fire," a group exhibition curated by Lara Felsing and David McGregor. Featuring works from artists worldwide, urban and rural, the exhibition reflects on loss, displacement, memory, and the shifting meaning of home in the face of recurring environmental crisis. Through reflections on loss, displacement, memory, and resilience, the works consider what we hold onto when familiar landscapes and ways of life are threatened.

In the Upper Gallery, "The Virtue of Weeds: What We've Carried With Us" by Melissa Cole examines the relationship between humans and invasive plants through botanical watercolour paintings. The exhibition traces the journeys of plants through trade, colonization, and migration, exploring their connections to human history, environmental change, and the shifting ecosystems we inhabit today.

Both exhibitions run June 20 – August 23, 2026. Can't make the opening? Pop in and check out the exhibitions Tuesdays–Sundays, 10 am–4 pm.

We’re so thrilled to share these exhibitions with you and hope you’ll join us for the opening celebration!

Looking for a creative way to spend part of your summer? Check out our hands-on workshops designed to inspire reflection, creativity, and connection. Whether you’re interested in exploring personal growth through art, reigniting your creative spark, or learning a new textile art technique, there’s something for everyone.

On June 20, Jenn Wushke’s Catching Glimmers: Ignite Your Creative Spark workshop invites participants to explore creativity through play, self-expression, and mindfulness in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.

Then, on July 19, Registered Canadian Art Therapist Charmaine Husum will guide participants through the creation of a personal mask while exploring themes of identity, authenticity, resilience, and self-awareness through reflection, mindfulness, and creative expression.

For those eager to dive into batik, Joanne Smith returns on July 25 with a second Beyond Barbara Leighton’s Batik Workshop. Participants can continue the experience the following day at Batik Play Day, a relaxed opportunity to experiment, practice new techniques, and work on ongoing projects alongside fellow makers.

WOW! What an incredible weekend at the 39th Annual Clothesline Art Market!

Thank you to everyone who joined us this past weekend to celebrate art, artists, and community. From browsing original paintings, pottery, textiles, and fine craft to enjoying live music, delicious food, and breathtaking foothills views, this year's market was truly unforgettable - and the weather (mostly!) cooperated for us.

A huge thank you to our talented artist members, dedicated volunteers, staff, and every visitor who made the trip to experience this cherished tradition. For almost four decades, the Clothesline Art Market has connected artists directly with collectors and art lovers, and we're grateful to everyone who continues to make this event so special.

Missed a favourite piece? There's still time to shop! Our Clothesline Online Sale continues throughout June, featuring artwork from more than 40 artists, with pieces available through our online gallery shop until the end of the month. And if you find a piece online you love, feel free to drop by and we're happy to assist you in-person as well. Check out shop.leightoncentre.org or click on the link in our Linktree.

Thank you for supporting local artists, celebrating creativity, and helping us keep this long-standing tradition thriving. We can't wait to see you again next year!
