Radon is a radioactive gas that is released from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. Some areas within and surrounding the Town of Minnedosa have shown to have high levels of Radon.

This gas can typically pe*****te into structures through their foundations, causing harmful levels to accumulate within the building.

The Tanner's Crossing Planning District provides the rental of a Radon Detector for anyone wanting to test their home or building.

If high levels of this harmful gas exist in your building, mitigation options do exist.

For more information, please see the contact info on the attached notice.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Until further notice TCPD had relocated.

When in doubt, check it out!

The best way to find out if you need a permit is to call Tanner’s Crossing Planning District, 204-867-2364. Discuss your plans with the Building Official/Development Officer before beginning construction to determine whether a Building Permit, Development Permit, Variation Order or a Conditional Use is required. Even if a permit is not needed, we can answer construction questions and may provide valuable advice.

Examples of projects that require a Building Permit:
• Finishing previously unfinished spaces such as rec rooms, family rooms, attics, etc.
• Repair and underpinning of foundations
• Installation of solid fuel burning appliances such as wood stoves and fireplaces, and other mechanical systems
• Installation of pools and hot tubs
• Construction of decks
• Construction of temporary buildings
• Construction of accessory buildings (storage sheds, etc.) exceeding 100 sq. ft.
• Construction of attached and detached garages and carports
• Excavation of any land for the purpose of erecting or locating on or above it, any building or structure
• Demolitions

Failure to take out a Permit?
• If the work does not comply with Code requirements, costly repairs may be required.
• Work that cannot be made to comply will require removal at your expense.
• Where a permit is required and where a permit has not been obtained prior to the commencement of the actual work the fees shall be double the normal rate upon first notice of failure. Where continuing to obtain a permit results in prosecution, a restitution fee of up to a $1,000 plus any inspection fees.
