🔥🌲 Preparing for the Wildland Fire Threat

Over the past two weeks, members of the Miramichi Fire Department completed NFPA 1140 Wildland Firefighter Level I & II training delivered by Darren Hutchinson of Quintech Fire Services, based in British Columbia.

As the threat of wildland fire continues to grow, our firefighters are strengthening their skills and preparing to respond in the event our community and homes are threatened.

🚒🔥 Two Hats, One Commitment to Community! 🔥🚒

We're proud to see one of our own, Cody, helping spread an important fire safety message during Fire Prevention Week! When he's not helping customers at Towne Chrysler, Cody proudly serves his community as a volunteer firefighter. His dedication both on and off the job is a great example of the commitment our volunteer members bring to their communities every day.

A big thank you to Towne Chrysler for recognizing Cody's volunteer service and helping promote fire prevention awareness! 👏

⚡ Whether you're charging your phone, power tools, or other battery-powered devices, remember to use the proper charger, follow the manufacturer's instructions, and never charge damaged batteries.

Fire prevention is everyone's responsibility, and education is one of our best tools for keeping our community safe!

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” highlights the importance of using and charging lithium-ion batteries safely.

-Use manufacturer-approved chargers and cables
-Charge devices on hard, flat surfaces — never on beds or couches
-Keep batteries and charging devices away from heat and anything flammable
-Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged or overheating
-Unplug devices when fully charged, whenever practical

Remember to test your smoke alarms, maintain working carbon monoxide alarms, and ensure everyone in your household knows two ways out of every room.

The City of Miramichi Fire Dept. thanks our firefighters and fire prevention personnel for their continued dedication to educating our community and keeping our residents safe.

This week, our members have been busy both in the classroom and out in the field, taking part in Week 1 of the NFPA 1051 Wildland Firefighting Training being offered to our department.

We would like to send a huge thank you to Fundy Line Restaurant for generously donating and serving breakfast to our crews on Tuesday morning! Your kindness and support helped fuel our members and get them ready to take on the day.

The City of Miramichi is now taking applications for multiple full and part-time firefighter positions and to create a one-year eligibility list. This role involves responding to fires, rescue situations, and other urgent incidents requiring rapid, effective, and safety‑focused action.

⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY – FUEL SPILL ⚠️

The Miramichi Fire Department is advising motorists to use extreme caution in the area of Williston Drive and King George Highway, including the entire length of Williston Drive, as well as King George Highway from the Williston Drive intersection to the French Fort Cove Road intersection, due to a significant fuel spill.

Fire Department personnel are on scene, and the City of Miramichi Public Works Department has been contacted to assist with cleanup operations.

The roadway may be slippery and hazardous. Motorists are asked to slow down and use caution.

The Miramichi Police Force and New Brunswick Public Safety have also been notified and are aware of the situation.

We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation while crews work to make the area safe.

Miramichi Fire is issuing a public safety notice to all motorists: unauthorized vehicles are strictly prohibited from entering or using the fire apparatus exit/roadway entrance located on the Beaverbrook Boulevard side of Miramichi Fire Station 1.

We have observed a significant increase in vehicles using this restricted area for turning movements, likely due to increased traffic associated with the temporary closure of the Centennial Bridge. This activity creates a serious safety hazard and directly interferes with emergency response operations.

Illegal or improper U-turns at this location are extremely dangerous. The roadway design creates a severe blind spot, placing motorists at high risk of colliding with fast-moving, oncoming traffic.

For your safety and the safety of our first responders, please obey all signage and use designated turning areas only.
