🌲🥾 Finding Adventure Close to Home 🥾🌲

Individuals from MACL's Maple Community Inclusion group recently spent a day exploring the beautiful trails around Rolley Lake Provincial Park—and what a day it was!

Surrounded by towering trees, fresh mountain air, and peaceful forest scenery, individuals enjoyed a chance to connect with nature, get active, and spend quality time with friends. Along the way there were plenty of laughs, opportunities for exploration, and a few memorable photo moments!

Spending time outdoors offers so many benefits—from reducing stress and improving physical wellness to encouraging social connections and a greater appreciation for the natural world. Sometimes the best adventures are simply a walk through the forest with good company.

We're grateful to live in a community with such beautiful outdoor spaces to enjoy and explore together. 💚

🌿 Honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day 🌿

Some of the supported individuals took the opportunity to attend Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations at Fraser River Heritage Park.

The day was filled with community, culture, learning, laughter, and connection. From enjoying activities and entertainment to spending time outdoors with friends, it was a meaningful opportunity to come together and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of the First Peoples.

As an organization, we are grateful to live, learn, work, and build community on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically the Leq'á:mel, Semá:th, Kwantlen, Sq'éwlets, Máthxwi, and Katzie traditional territories . We recognize the importance of listening, learning, and fostering relationships rooted in respect and understanding.

Thank you to the organizers, performers, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, volunteers, and community members who made the day so special.

💚 Today and every day, we celebrate the diversity, cultures, and stories that strengthen our communities.

🍳🥕 Cooking Up Confidence, Connection & Independence! 🥕🍳

Over the past several weeks, individuals in our Supported Living Services (SLS) program have been sharpening their kitchen skills through their annual Cooking Workshop series.

From meal planning and budgeting to chopping, sautéing, and preparing delicious meals from scratch, participants gain practical skills that support greater independence in everyday life.

The workshops also provided opportunities to build friendships, share laughs, learn from one another, and enjoy the satisfaction that comes from creating something together. Whether it was mastering a new recipe, trying a new ingredient, or simply enjoying a meal with friends, every session was filled with learning, teamwork, and fun.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Cooking Workshop a success. We can't wait to see what our talented chefs cook up next! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳💚

☀️🌲 A Perfect Day for Adventure! 🌲☀️

Our Maple Community Inclusion group recently headed to Maple Ridge for a day of exploration, fresh air, and fun in the sunshine!

From climbing rock walls and discovering new playgrounds to enjoying the peaceful beauty of the river, the day was filled with laughter, friendship, and plenty of opportunities to get active outdoors. The group even took time to explore some local history and enjoy the simple joy of spending time together in the community.

Day trips like these are about more than just getting out and about—they build confidence, encourage connection, promote wellness, and create lasting memories.

It was a beautiful day to explore, challenge themselves, and appreciate everything our communities have to offer. 💚

🍴🥭🥒 MACL's Chopped Challenge is Back! 🎉

Our Maple, Oak, and Cedar Community Inclusion programs recently faced off in our annual Chopped Challenge, where teams were given a basket of mystery ingredients and tasked with creating delicious dishes using every single one.

This year's ingredient combinations included:
🥕 Beets, oranges, chow mein noodles & whipped cream
🥭 Mango, pepper, lemon & star anise
🥒 Pickles, peanut butter, panko & pepper

Sounds impossible? Think again!

The creativity on display was incredible, with teams transforming these unusual ingredients into dishes that wowed our judges, Cheri and Paula, who scored each entry on presentation, taste, and creativity.

While one team earned the top spot, every dish was imaginative, beautifully presented, and delicious. Most importantly, everyone had a great time—and our judges left very full! 😄

👏 Congratulations to all of the individuals who participated and showcased their culinary talents. We can't wait to see what next year's mystery ingredients bring!

🌈 Happy Pride Month from MACL!

This June, we celebrate the diversity that makes our communities stronger, kinder, and more vibrant.

At MACL, we believe that everyone deserves to feel welcomed, valued, respected, and free to be themselves. Pride Month is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many individuals, families, staff, and community members who help create a culture of inclusion and belonging each and every day.

We are proud to support communities where differences are embraced, individuality is celebrated, and everyone has the opportunity to live, learn, work, and thrive.

To all those we support, our dedicated staff, and our friends and neighbours throughout the community — we celebrate you this Pride Month and beyond.

National AccessAbility Week takes place from May 31 to June 6, with this year’s theme: “Building a Strong, Accessible Canada”

Accessibility is often thought of as ramps, elevators, door buttons, or reserved parking spaces — but true accessibility goes far beyond physical spaces.

It’s about belonging.
It’s about dignity.
It’s about whether people feel welcomed, included, heard, and valued in their communities.

For many able-bodied individuals, accessibility is something we may only notice when it is inconvenient to us — a longer automatic door, a reserved seating area, a quieter sensory-friendly space. But for others, accessibility is the difference between participating and being excluded entirely.

National AccessAbility Week invites all of us to pause and reflect:
• Who is missing from our workplaces, events, schools, and conversations?
• What barriers exist that we may never personally experience?
• Are we designing communities that simply accommodate people — or truly include them?

Sometimes making a difference starts with small actions:
👂Listening more thoughtfully.
🗨️Using inclusive language.
🤝Creating space at the table.
💡Challenging assumptions.
💙Recognizing ability before disability.

At Mission Association for Community Living, we believe accessibility is not about “helping others” — it is about building communities where everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, connect, and thrive.

An accessible Canada is a stronger Canada — for everyone. 💙

🌱 There’s something special about getting your hands in the soil and working together to help something grow. 🌻

Individuals from our Maple Day Program recently spent time preparing their new gardening space for flowers, bringing teamwork, laughter, and plenty of community spirit along the way. Gardening can be incredibly therapeutic — offering a chance to slow down, connect with nature, build friendships, and take pride in creating something beautiful together.

We can’t wait to see this space bloom over the coming weeks! 🌼🌿💚🫶
