Congratulations to Rasulan Q. Hoppie and Gurdarshan Gill who received the Visionary Award from the University of Toronto Mississauga Centre for Student Engagement as part of the 2026 Community Partner Awards. This recognition highlights their leadership in creating innovative opportunities that support student engagement and pathways to post-secondary education.

The award follows the successful launch of Middle School Access Days for Black identifying students in Grades 6 to 8, where students explored campus life, identity, wellness, and future pathways through hands on learning and mentorship.

We also celebrate PDSB Indigenous Education Team including Nicole Reynolds, Stephanie Turenko, Terra Belanger, and Kerry Powers, who received the Meaningful Collaboration Award for their ongoing partnership and work supporting Indigenous students.

Together, these efforts continue to create meaningful, inclusive pathways for student success.

Placing in the top 10% participants worldwide, Mrittika's been invited to attend the award ceremony at the University of Cambridge this July.

Today, on June 3, we recognize Red Shirt Day, a national day of action for accessibility and inclusion.

Led by Easter Seals Canada’s Red Shirt Day movement, this day encourages people across Canada to wear red, show support, and take action to remove barriers for individuals living with disabilities.

In Ontario alone, over 2.6 million people live with a disability. This reminds us of the importance of accessibility and inclusion. It is also an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions, leadership, and achievements of individuals in our schools, workplaces, and communities.

June is Pride Month! A celebration of the diversity, joy and contributions of Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ communities. Across our schools and communities, Pride is an opportunity to come together, show support and uplift one another. It also connects us to an important history.

Pride actually began as a protest—a brave movement where people stood up, raised their voices, and fought for the right to be treated with fairness, kindness, and respect.

Pride is a meaningful reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe and valued for exactly who they are as we continue to foster environments where everyone feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to be their authentic selves, this month, and throughout the entire year!
