Suspect Wanted After Assaulting Officer, Fleeing Traffic Stop in Brampton

Officers from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) are seeking a Brampton man in connection with an assault on a police officer.
On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at approximately 6:20 p.m., a patrol officer investigated a vehicle with improper licence plates that was in a parking lot near Peel Centre Drive in Brampton.
During the interaction, the driver became uncooperative and abruptly fled on foot. After a foot pursuit, the suspect resisted arrest, assaulting the officer during a physical struggle. Despite the officer’s efforts to take the suspect into custody, the suspect broke free and ran back to the vehicle.
In a reckless attempt to escape, the suspect drove off, striking both the officer and the marked patrol vehicle before fleeing the scene in a grey 2007 BMW 525i four-door with Ontario licence plate CSLJ609. The officer suffered minor injuries.
Investigators have identified the suspect as 41-year-old David Munoz. At the time of this interaction, he was prohibited from driving due to past criminal behaviour.
A warrant for his arrest has been issued, and he is now wanted for the following offences:
• Assault Peace Officer
• Assault with Weapon
• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Fail to Comply with a Release Order
• Breach of probation
Anyone with information on his whereabouts or this incident is asked to contact investigators with the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 2133. Anonymous information may also be submitted by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.
