Prison Fellowship Canada

Prison Fellowship Canada Prison Fellowship Canada (PFC) is devoted to the restoration and transformation of those impacted by incarceration based on the life and teachings of Jesus.

The mission of Prison Fellowship Canada is to equip and mobilize the Canadian Christian community to respond to crime and engage in restorative, Christ-centred ministry to prisoners, former prisoners and their families. Prison Fellowship was founded by Chuck Colson, one of US President Nixon’s top aides who served a seven month prison sentence for pleading guilty to obstruction of justice related

to the Watergate scandal. During that time he saw and experienced the difference faith in Jesus makes in people’s lives. He became convinced that the real solution to crime is found through spiritual renewal. At Colson’s invitation, Paul Hellyer, a former Canadian cabinet minister, and a small group of friends in Ottawa, inaugurated the work in Canada in 1980, forming Prison Fellowship Canada. PFC’s Canada Revenue Agency charitable registration number is 13105 6848 RR0001. We are also a member of Canadian Council of Christian Charities.

Our National Bridgecare Manager, Melissa, was invited to attend a Celebrate Recovery Canada gathering at Creekside Church to share more about our Angel Tree and Bridgecare programs.

The day also included hearing from two formerly incarcerated individuals as they shared their experiences with Celebrate Recovery and now in the community. It was an encouraging time filled with meaningful conversations and stories of the Lord at work.

Thank you to Lorie Hartshorn for having our CEO, Stacey Palmer, on an episode of The FOUND Podcast!

Stacey talks about PFC’s prison ministry work and the importance of walking alongside those impacted by incarceration as they navigate healing, growth, and restoration. Stacey also reflects on what it means to see people beyond their pasts and the hope that continues to shape the work.

We are beyond blessed to have a community of church partners across Canada who faithfully serve prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families.

Let’s continue lifting them up in prayer as they carry out this work, asking God to refresh their spirits and strengthen them as they serve those deeply loved by Him.

As our team here at Angel Tree works diligently to register children with an incarcerated parent for camp, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the generous sponsors who make this possible.

As a community, we are able to bring joy and hope to children across Canada. Thank you for being part of the change in these families’ lives and for supporting our ministry as we strive to include as many children as we can.

Prayer is the foundation of our mission at PFC.

It shapes every part of what we do - from praying with and for prisoners and their families, to lifting up our dedicated volunteers and supporters. Prayer is placing both our trials and triumphs into the Lord’s hands, trusting Him to bring hope and renewal.

We invite you to join us in prayer.

Our Vice President, Shirley, travelled to Alberta to meet with our Regional Manager Tara and Regional Coordinator for the Prairies, Briana!

Shirley, Tara, and Briana gathered in Airdrie for two days of meetings to discuss the ministry across Alberta and Western Canada. It was a fruitful time of collaboration and planning as they continue to support our ministry in that region.

It is always a blessing for our PFC staff to come together in person!

“There are not enough words to thank you for sponsoring my grandchildren this summer to attend church camp. Their lives have changed with the truth of God’s Word. They compare notes with friends they met. I know this experience has strengthened them spiritually, and for this I am grateful. My heart is full.”

- Caregiver (Saskatchewan)

Together, we can make a difference that lasts beyond the summer.

We’re so thankful to have had our PFC volunteers across Alberta come together for training and celebration at our “Stones of Remembrance” storytelling event!

Volunteers from our different PFC programs - including In-Prison Ministries, PFC by Phone, Bridgecare, and Angel Tree - were able to learn from each other and spend meaningful time in prayer and worship.

It was such a joy to see and hear how the Lord has been at work in the lives of this amazing group of PFC volunteers, and we are always so blessed when we can come together in person as one team.

As we work toward finding the right candidate for our bilingual translator position, we want to take a moment to thank the Lord for the support of the Canada Summer Jobs grant.

We pray for His guidance in bringing forward the person He has intended for this opportunity, and that they would be covered in His protection and grace as they step into this season of growth.

Today, we want to honour all the mothers and mother figures in our PFC community. We’re so grateful for their resilience and the quiet sacrifices they make every day. We pray the Holy Spirit will strengthen their walk through hardship and continually remind them how deeply valued and loved they are.

We also want to pray for those who find today difficult, asking the Lord to bring comfort, peace, and gentle reminders of His presence in every season.
