The Marvin Duchow Music Library wishes to share the news of Cathy Martin’s upcoming retirement. As Liaison Librarian & Coordinator of Access Services, Cathy has been a cherished and integral part of the Music Library’s team since she joined in 2008.
In the words of Head Librarian Houman Behzadi: “It is difficult to capture Cathy’s positive impact on the Marvin Duchow Music Library and the Schulich School of Music in just a few sentences, but I shall try nonetheless. Those who have worked closely with Cathy know that she exemplifies expertise and excellence in the field of music librarianship. She consistently demonstrates her steadfast commitment to user services, whether through emails, work meetings, collegial conversations, or consultations that facilitate access to library resources. Her achievements in user and collections services at the MDML, her many contributions to the McGill Libraries and the SSoM, her national leadership through the Canadian Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres, and—last but not least—her profound positive influence on the careers of many, including my own, deserve special recognition and celebration.”
A celebration of Cathy and her contributions was held on Wednesday, May 13 at the Music Library. The event was attended by many colleagues, faculty, students, alumni, friends, and family, and featured speeches from, among others, Guylaine Beaudry, Trenholme Dean of McGill Libraries, Sean Ferguson, Dean of the Schulich School of Music, and Houman Behzadi, Head Librarian of the Marvin Duchow Music Library.
Please join us in wishing Cathy well for her retirement; may it be filled with many great adventures ahead!
