Today is not a day for party politics. Instead, it should be a day of reflection for all walks of life living in Canada. Today is a day that we should all pay our respects to Indigenous Canadians and listen to their stories: ones of cultural genocide, kidnapping by the hands of our very government, intergenerational trauma, and displacement. We should all take a minute to reflect on those who have passed away or whose whereabouts are unknown due to our disregard and inaction towards Indigenous Canadians and their communities’ challenges. It should be a day to reflect on the privilege that we have been given, our ability to study on the grounds of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation (where Concordia campus lies), and all that we have been afforded on the backs of centuries of indigenous oppression.
