Flights of Fancy

Flights of Fancy The Merry Go ‘Round

I invite you to come experience the feelings you had when you were 5 years old, the first time you rode a real Merry Go ‘Round.

I consider myself an Aviator because I fly for the love of flying, and that's what Flights of Fancy is all about: sharing this beautiful voyage with any one who wants to see it! Unfamiliar noises and clicks, a little disorientation, then you get used to the new sensations and enjoy a marvellous view of odd and exciting images. Some whirl past you in a repetitive smear of color and others dance ar

ound with you, seemingly in a world that only includes the riders of horses and chariots. And then it comes to a gentle finish. You step back onto the ground as one would step out of a ship, questioning momentarily your own sense balance, then walk away, feeling as though you’ve just returned from a faraway place. My Flight of Fancy only differs in the images. Starting on the east end flying over the Louise h. Lafontaine tunnel and the Olympic Stadium, we follow Rachel Street to Lafontaine Park. From this point, we start our long lulling orbit of Mount Royal, seeing from a bird’s eye view the majesty of the architecture built around it. Stretching the orbit over the Decarie on the west and the St Laurence on the south lets us see Montreal in ways many have only dreamt about. The downtown buildings against the mountain, the Lachine Canal and the Vieu Port: I’m repeatedly impressed by the beauty our city has to offer. The Big Yellow Slide. You remember it. It was the first thing you saw as you were approaching the neighbourhood park because it was one of the highest structures; at least twice as tall as a bunk bed. If you were one of those kids that took forever to get up the ladder, and held on to the sides of the slide all the way down in order to slow your descent...
Then this Flight of Fancy isn’t for you
But if you flew down the slide as fast as you can and ran ta tha ladda ta get back in line ta do it all again...
Then you’ve gotta come on this ride with me. We’ll do 3 Touch’n Go’s; flying up to 1000 feet after takeoff, coming around, then descending 1000 feet ta land...3 times. Yes...we can experience 400ft in 4 seconds in both directions.....
And when it’s over, you’ll feel like you’ve played in the park all day. The Roller Coaster

Access to this Flight of Fancy is restricted to those who’ve already been on The Yellow Slide. Needless to say, it’s exhilaration like nothing you’ve felt before. A distinct Roller Coaster...not on a track...of your own design...or mine.

Landing a plane is a tricky proposition under the best of circumstances. That said, some scary landings are actually great examples of fantastic piloting. Here are some of the best and worst, caught on video.
