Sometimes the best clinical lessons happen outside the classroom.

Earlier this year, Commander Ajiri Ikede completed a Clinical Readiness Sustainment Program placement in Whitehorse, Yukon. The emergency medicine experience strengthened clinical skills, broadened perspective, and reinforced the importance of operationally relevant clinical exposure to maintain military readiness and prepare for the unexpected.

Some of the best lessons in clinical readiness happen outside the classroom.

Effective July 15, 2026, the Canadian Armed Forces will begin dissolving the Aerospace Physiology Technician occupation. Its specialized expertise and essential functions will be integrated into other occupations. The CAF recognizes the occupation’s significant contributions and is committed to preserving its history and providing support throughout the transition.

Notice: Retirement of the Aviation Physiology Technician (Av Phys Tech) Occupation

As the Canadian Armed Forces continues to modernize to meet the demands of future operations, the Aviation Physiology Technician occupation will be retired following a comprehensive occupational review.

What does this mean?

Beginning July 15, 2026, the specialized expertise and critical functions of Av Phys Techs will start to be integrated into other CAF occupations.

The CAF recognizes the significant contributions of the Av Phys Tech trade and remains committed to preserving its history and providing support throughout this transition.

Au cours des deux dernières années, l’Adjudant‑chef Valérie Charbonneau s’est distinguée par son dévouement exemplaire, sa disponibilité constante et son engagement indéfectible envers ses subordonnés et l’unité. Toujours présente, toujours prête à soutenir l’unité, elle a démontré un professionnalisme remarquable et une rigueur inspirante dans l’exécution de ses fonctions.

Par son travail acharné, ses multiples communications avec le quartier général supérieur, sa présence rassurante et son souci du détail, elle a contribué de manière significative à la cohésion et à l’efficacité de l’unité. Son leadership, empreint de respect et d’intégrité, a fait d’elle un modèle pour tous ceux et celles qui ont eu le privilège de travailler à ses côtés.

Pour toutes ces raisons, l’Adjudant‑chef du QG 4e Groupe de service de santé, l’Adjuc Scuncio, lui a décerné le jeton du 4e Groupe, afin de la remercier sincèrement pour son engagement exceptionnel et son travail exemplaire. La remise du jeton a été effectuée le mercredi 3 juin dernier à Valcartier, lors de la visite des installations de la formation QG‑SDT 2026.

Always present and always ready to support the unit, she has demonstrated remarkable professionalism and inspiring rigor in the performance of her duties.

Through her hard work, her numerous communications with higher headquarters, her reassuring presence, and her attention to detail, she has contributed significantly to the cohesion and effectiveness of the unit. Her leadership, marked by respect and integrity, has made her a role model for all who have had the privilege of working alongside her.

For all these reasons, the Chief Warrant Officer of HQ 4 Health Services Group, CWO Scuncio, awarded her the 4 Health Services Group token of recognition, as a sincere expression of appreciation for her exceptional commitment and exemplary work. The token was presented on Wednesday, June 3rd in Valcartier, during the visit of the HQ‑SDT 2026 formation to the facilities.

Captain Joanie Ouellette, whose baby was four months old, began studying medicine through the Military Medical Training Program. This opportunity allowed her to make a career transition, moving from her role as a military nurse to that of a military physician within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).
