Monday, May 4, 2026: Update on the current conditions in Moose Factory

Following today's surveillance and a review by our Emergency Operations Control Group, it has been determined that we will continue with our downgrading alert process and are now at Level 4.

This means that water levels remain high but are no longer at critical levels, water levels continue to decrease.

The process to return all evacuees from Moose Factory Island has started.

However, the return of community members will take time and require planning and coordination. Flight schedules will be confirmed once aircraft are secured to support these flights.
Updates will be shared as soon as more information becomes available.

Flights will be coordinated in the south through your host site, and you will receive your travel details there. Our community liaisons will continue working closely with host sites to support a smooth and safe transition back to the community.

Those who previously registered and self-evacuated please email [email protected] with your name, planned return date, and transportation will be covered.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we work together to bring everyone home safely.

12:00pm

Good day all, we took a short flight towards the mouth of the river and there is open water right to Wavy Creek on the west channel of the river, there is still standing ice between the south end of Hayes island and the north end of Pilgrim Island on east side of the river. With the water receding there will be no more surveillance flights or monitoring of the island throughout the night. We would like to thank the people of Moose Factory for their patience, support and understanding during this time.

Further updates will come today from the Moose Factory Island Emergency Operations Control Group on the next steps.

Reminder that there is still a large amount of ice coming down river and lots of ice hung up on low lying areas or still jammed between islands, it is still not safe to launch boats at this time.
