**Happy Thanksgiving from Moose Jaw Fire Department!**

Getting ready for a big Thanksgiving meal? Here are a few reminders to help keep everyone safe this long weekend.

🍳 Stay in the kitchen while cooking and keep an eye on the stove.

🔥 Keep dish towels, paper towels and other things that can catch fire away from the stovetop.

🧯 If a grease fire starts in a pan, cover it with a lid and turn off the heat if it’s safe to do so. Leave the lid on until it’s completely cool. Never pour water on a grease fire!

🕯️ Keep candles away from decorations and never leave them unattended.

🚨 Make sure your smoke alarms are working.

🔋🔥 **Lithium-Ion Battery Fires Can Happen Quickly**

During Fire Prevention Week, we’re sharing this incident as a reminder of how quickly a battery fire can develop.

Lithium-ion batteries are found in many of the devices we use every day. Safe charging and proper use can help reduce the risk of fire.

⚠️ **Remember:**
• Use the charger designed for your device.
• Don’t charge batteries on beds, couches, or other soft surfaces.
• Keep charging devices away from anything that can burn.
• Stop using a battery if it becomes damaged, swollen, unusually hot, or starts producing smoke or an unusual smell.
• Never ignore signs of a battery problem.

Last night, Moose Jaw Fire Department responded to a residential fire on Duffield Street. The fire started in the basement.

All occupants were out of the home, and firefighters rescued four pets.
