𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 & 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆… 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗽
One of the things I value most about North Dundas is the incredible number of people who give their time to make our community a great place to live, work and raise a family.
Our sports organizations, service clubs, markets, parades, community events, historical groups, charitable organizations and beautiful public spaces don’t just happen. Behind them are volunteers giving countless hours to organize, fundraise, coach, help beautify our villages, serve on committees and do so much of the work that keeps our community active, connected, safe and caring.
I’ve always believed that being part of a community means getting involved, supporting these efforts and, quite simply, showing up.
Recreation has been a big part of my life for decades. My hockey timekeeping and announcing days began back in the 80’s with the Chesterville Jr. C Flyers, followed by the Wi******er Jr. B Hawks and, more recently, the North Dundas Senior Rockets. Today, I continue to fill in with the North Dundas Jr. Rockets when available.
I’ve also coached in the Wi******er and District Ladies Hockey League for many years and continue to do so today. I was involved with our former youth ball hockey program, which grew to more than 200 kids. Recreation, and hockey in particular, has been a big part of our family’s life for many years.
But recreation and culture in North Dundas extends well beyond our arenas.
I serve on the SDG Library Board and as Council liaison for the Garden Party Market and North Dundas Parade of Lights. Over the years, I’ve also had the opportunity to support and participate in events and activities with the Chesterville Historical Society, Morewood Recreation Association, Lions and Legion groups, Dairyfest, Art on the Waterfront, Truth and Reconciliation Day and Ride for Dad, among many, many others.
Supporting our community also means helping those who support our neighbours. I’ve participated in hunger awareness challenges and food collection initiatives with House of Lazarus and Community Food Share, and helped with the Lions Christmas Hampers.
The photos I’m sharing are just a snapshot of some of the events, organizations and activities I’ve had the privilege of being part of over the years. More importantly, they represent the tremendous amount of volunteer work happening throughout North Dundas every day.

Whether you’re coaching a team, organizing a parade or fair, showing “Moo-vies,” putting on a performance, running a community event, planting flowers, flooding an outdoor rink, collecting food, sourcing vendors, serving on a committee, fighting a fire on a cold winter night, or doing one of the countless jobs behind the scenes, your contribution matters.
You bring people together, create opportunities for our children, support our neighbours, help keep our communities safe and give our villages and communities their unique character.
