June is commercial vehicle safety month. Here in Sturgeon County, commercial vehicles are a common sight on our roads every day—from farm equipment and delivery trucks to tractor-trailers and gravel haulers.

These vehicles help keep our community running, but they also need extra space and care.

Let’s all do our part to help keep everyone stay safe by:
• Giving trucks more space, since they take longer to stop
• Staying out of blind spots—if you can’t see the driver, they can’t see you
• Being patient on rural roads and highways
• Slowing down near work sites, farms, and construction zones

Showcase your culinary skills and share your green thumb at the Blue Ribbon Fair.

Submit your homemade jam or jelly, mocktail or favourite family recipe for tasting and judging by Council (yes, they’re excited!). Plus, a Best Cookie competition just for kids.

We've also added a new category this year: Best Backyard Basket. Create your best thriller, spiller and filler arrangement in a hanging basket or container! Amateur growers, please.

Register today!

Join us July 9 for the Agricultural Service Board (ASB) Farm Tour.

New this year: a supervised tour for kids aged 6-12 on their own bus with a fun, kid‑friendly experience at each stop, including themed games, crafts, and hands‑on activities designed just for them.

Children under 6 are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian and may participate in kids’ games and activities under parental supervision while still enjoying the main ASB Farm Tour.

This will be a full day of guided tours with local producers and agricultural businesses. We will be visiting Nolte Apiaries, Folly Fruits, Alfatec - Legal Alfalfa Products Ltd and Forcade Farms.

All County gravel roads have been impacted due to heavy rainfall.

Grading the entire gravel road network will begin as soon as conditions improve (roads dry out sufficiently to support the weight of equipment used to maintain them). Grading is methodically routed, not by individual request, takes time, and the response may pivot if more rain comes.

Sunday, June 21, 22:45: Sturgeon County is experiencing heavy rain and flooding in several areas. Stormwater systems are at capacity, and water use should be limited. To help stop further flooding, please avoid unnecessary indoor water use, limit showers and baths, and delay laundry and dishwasher use.

The County continues to prioritize active damage to public infrastructure first, then areas at high risk of damage, followed by lower-risk situations. Residents should call their insurance company if they have experienced flooding. Residents are urged to monitor conditions closely and make sure sump pumps and downspouts are functioning properly to direct water away from homes.

Who to contact:
If there is an immediate threat to life or safety, call 911.
If your home is flooding, call your insurance company.
If you see flooding on a public roadway, or you see a public safety concern because of the rain, please report it to the County by calling 780-939-4321.
