Sturgeon Public Schools We are proud to serve 5000+ students within 17 schools in Sturgeon County and surrounding areas. Student success is the focus of our educational programs.

Sturgeon Public Schools has a long history of outstanding education along with a strong sense of community. We are proud of the welcoming atmosphere that exists at our schools. In addition to continuing success in provincial achievement tests and diploma exams, many of

our students are rewarded with the Alexander Rutherford scholarships. Students in our vocational programs also achieve high levels of success, winning top honours in local, provincial and national competitions. Sturgeon Public graduates are prepared to excel at post-secondary institutions and in their future careers. Our schools offer a wide range of programming options, from core subjects to advanced placement to vocational training and more. We also offer the Head Start programs to assist young children with communication and school readiness skills as well as an alternate high school program for students outside of a traditional school setting. Every child develops at their own pace, and it can be difficult to know if they could benefit from extra support before kindergarten.

Ask yourself:
• Is my child ready for a classroom setting?
• Are they communicating at an age-appropriate level?
• How are their social and emotional skills developing?

These simple questions can help identify your child's strengths and areas where additional support may help. Pre-Kindergarten programs are designed to build confidence, communication, social skills, and independence before kindergarten.

The Board of Trustees of Sturgeon Public Schools extends its congratulations to Leona Petherbridge on receiving the Special Contribution to Public Education Award from the Public School Boards' Association of Alberta.

Leona's decades of service as a Library Technician, 4-H Leader, and school bus driver have positively impacted thousands of young people. Through her dedication, students have gained confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and practical life skills that continue to serve them well beyond the classroom.

The Board was proud to nominate Leona for this well-deserved provincial recognition and thanks her for her outstanding contribution to public education and the communities served by Sturgeon Public Schools.

The Sturgeon Public Schools Board of Trustees is proud to celebrate Risa Kelada as the division’s 2026 Edwin Parr Teacher Award nominee. The Edwin Parr Award recognizes excellence in first-year teachers across Alberta.

Trustees, senior leaders, and school administrators were pleased to celebrate Risa at the 2026 ASBA Zone 2-3 Awards Celebration on May 5. Risa, who teaches at Namao School, has already made a remarkable impact through her creativity, energy, and deep commitment to student success. Her engaging and inclusive approach to learning has inspired students, strengthened connections with families, and enriched the culture of the school community.
