Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable batteries and power many of the devices we use every day from phones and laptops to power tools, e-bikes, toys, and more.

But when they're no longer needed, never put them in the garbage.
Improperly disposed lithium-ion batteries can be damaged during collection and processing, potentially causing fires in garbage trucks, recycling facilities, and landfills.

Before disposing of a lithium-ion battery:
βœ” tape the battery terminals
βœ” store it in a cool, dry place
βœ” take it to a designated battery recycling or household hazardous waste collection site
βœ” contact your municipality for local disposal options

⚠️ If a battery is damaged, leaking, swollen, overheating, or making unusual noises, stop using it immediately and dispose of it safely.

A few extra minutes can help prevent a fire.

🌊 It's National Drowning Prevention Week (July 19–25)! This year's theme: Prepare to be Water Smart.

Swim where the lifeguards are and know the water.

Lifeguards make your swim safer, but they don't replace active adult supervision. When no lifeguards are present, always swim with a buddy.

Waterfronts and open water can provide a fun place to enjoy the water. Follow all posted signage and markers, and keep children within arm's reach in the water. Learn where the safest places are to swim and what areas to avoid.

Having a plan and being familiar with the water can save your life, and provide an enjoyable experience.

🌊 It's National Drowning Prevention Week (July 19–25)! This year's theme: Prepare to be Water Smart.

Lifejackets are for everyone! Preparation saves lives.

Gear up with properly fitted lifejackets for the whole family. Here's what to look for in your lifejacket: https://southdundas.info/lifejackets

89% of people who fatally drowned while boating were either not wearing a lifejacket or weren't wearing it properly. Prepare for a safe boat ride by always wearing your lifejacket.

Lifejackets are like seatbelts: they're meant to be worn. Prepare for safe water-based activities: boats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, even swimming, and wear your lifejacket.

See a green flashing light while driving? Give the vehicle space. πŸ’šπŸš—βž‘οΈ

πŸš’In Ontario, a green flashing light on a personal vehicle is a volunteer firefighter responding to an emergency call. Signal, slow down and pull over to let them pass.

Every second counts.
