🍎 Fall activities with our Little Buds group!

Our Little Buds group enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of apple picking last month! It was a wonderful opportunity for our youngest community members to spend time outdoors, connect with friends and family, and enjoy the season.

🍂 Nothing beats a beautiful fall day in Epekwitk!

🧡 Welcoming Elders from neighbouring communities!

✨ We were thrilled to welcome approximately 30 Elders from Millbrook First Nation for a special afternoon of connection and friendship.

👉 Elders from both communities came together to enjoy bingo,
friendly conversation, and laughter, creating a wonderful opportunity for connection and relationship building between our communities.

🌟 Wela’lioq to everyone who helped make these gatherings so special!

Bringing Indigenous health education to the community 🩺

❤️ This fall, third-year nursing students at UPEI are getting the opportunity to learn about Indigenous health, healing and well-being directly within our Mi’kmaq community here in Epekwitk.

🪶 Through the “NURS 3250: Indigenous Health, Healing and Wellbeing” course, students will learn from the knowledge and experience of Abegweit community members, guided by Dr. Terry LeBlanc and members of the Abegweit Health Centre.

🧡 The course was developed as a response to Truth and Reconciliation Commission Call to Action #24, helping future health professionals build a deeper understanding of Indigenous health and culturally safe care.

🎓 We’re proud to work with UPEI to support opportunities that bring education, community and Indigenous knowledge together.

🧡October is Mi’kmaq History Month 🧡

🪶 This month is an opportunity to learn more about the history, culture, traditions and ongoing contributions of the Mi’kmaq. It’s a time to listen and to create space for learning and understanding.

✨ We’re sharing a few special moments from our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Treaty Day ceremonies which began this month of learning.

🎥 If you haven’t had a chance, we encourage you to watch the livestream and hear directly from local Indigenous Elders and Leaders: www.youtube.com/

Wela’lioq to everyone who continues to share their knowledge, stories and teachings.
